About Us:
The Ministry of Works and Transport operates three Regional Mechanical
workshops, namely: Bugembe Workshop located in Jinja District, Mbarara Workshop
located in Mbarara District and Gulu Workshop located in Gulu District.
The Regional Mechanical workshops are mandated to perform the following
functions:-
  • Conduct major repair of District and Urban
    Roads equipment including motor graders, bulldozers, wheel loaders chain
    loaders, vibratory rollers, hydraulic excavators, bitumen boilers and
    sprayers, trucks etc.
  • Conduct major repair of their (Workshops)
    core equipment and vehicle
  • Render technical support and build human
    resource capacity of the Districts and Urban Local Governments.
  • Provide services of specialized equipment
    to the local Governments such as crane trucks, low loaders, mobile
    workshops etc.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Take lead of the Security section of the
    Workshop
  • Ensure safety of workshop property and
    thoroughly check incoming and outgoing vehicles and persons to ensure that
    workshop property is not stolen and illegal objects are not brought into
    the workshop.
  • Keep security at the entry points to the
    Workshop yard, stores etc to restrict entry by unauthorized persons
  • Routinely patrol the premises to ensure
    maximum safety and security of the equipment and vehicles parked in the
    yard and check for possible break-ins that could have occurred during day
    and night.
  • Guard against removal of property by
    unauthorized persons
  • Maintain organized movement of property
    and staff by ensuring that gate passes and movement orders are carried
    when leaving the workshop yard.
  • Check all premises at the close of the day
    to ensure that all doors and windows are properly locked and appropriately
    handover to the night guards is done
  • Check and document the status of all
    equipment, vehicles and installations at the close of the day and ensure
    appropriate handover to the night guards
  • Apprehend suspected persons and question
    them for proper identification
  • Direct visitors to Reception/the Office
    Secretary for more information
  • Report theft cases to the authorities and
    prepare reports of such cases.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should possess an
    Advanced Level (A-Level) certificate
  • At least three years’ experience as a security
    officer handling similar tasks
  • Computer literacy skills will be an added
    advantage.
