About UEGCL:
Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd (UEGCL), a limited liability
company incorporated in March 2001 with the Head Office located in Jinja, is
one of the UEB successor companies. UEGCL’s key role is to manage the efficient
production of electricity power through power plant development and concession
monitoring. UEGCL is the implementing agency for the development of 2 power
projects namely, the 600MW Karuma Hydro Power Project (HPP) and the 183MW
Isimba Hydro Power Project (HPP).

Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project.

Job Summary: The Geologist will
be charged with all for geological site works for UEGCL. Site activities will
be key with monitoring site investigations and construction making up a large
portion of the duties. Candidates should show good experience in engineering
geology and be able to discuss technical features with the Project teams.

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Monitor construction activities including
the review and classification of subgrade, in-situ testing, observation
and testing of various construction methods. - Oversee geotechnical field exploration
including test borings, rock coring, test pits, cone penetration testing,
augers, and other methods. - Report in writing on site investigations,
adverse geological conditions, delays and quality issues relating to
construction operations. - Participate in the inspection of equipment
and materials and witnessing field tests. - Identify and advise on any unsafe or
incorrect practices and escalate issues where necessary. - Perform any other duties as required by
the Senior Geologist.
Qualifications, Skills &
Experience:
Experience:
- The Geologist should hold a Bachelor’s
degree in geology or engineering with a concentration in geotechnics from
a recognised university - At least five years’ experience of
geological and geotechnical investigations of sites in varied locations
and laboratory testing for civil engineering purposes including deep
foundations, excavations and major earthworks and dams. - Good working knowledge and experience of
site-based EHS processes and procedures/regulations. - Computer literacy skills with proficiency
in the use of engineering geological software would be an advantage. - Possess a valid driving licence.
