About UEGCL:
Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd (UEGCL), a
limited liability company incorporated in March 2001 with the Head Office
located in Jinja, is one of the UEB successor companies. UEGCL was formed under the Companies Act, 2012 on the basis of
the Public Enterprises Reform and Divestiture Act, Cap 98 and Electricity Act,
Cap 145 respectively. UEGCL’s primary role is to carry on the business of
electric power generation and sale within Uganda or for export to neighbouring
countries; build, operate and maintain Electricity Generation Plants; monitor
the operation and maintenance of its Concessioned Assets – Nalubaale and Kiira
Power Stations; provide Technical Support as and when required by the
Government of the Republic of Uganda through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral
Development; organize, support, encourage and maintain training facilities in
technical and related fields, amongst others.
Job Summary: The incumbent for this vacancy
will be oversee the Human Resources Department of the Company delivering on the
functions of human resources planning and management, human resources
development, performance management, compensation & benefits, recognition
& reward systems, employee relations, professional advisory support to line
managers in the development and retention of the suited human capital and the
overall positioning of the Company’s human resources in supporting the
attainment of the UEGCL’s strategic goals.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Human Resource planning for the Company to support the attainment of
    the strategic objectives set by the Board from time to time
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of a suited
    training and development strategy for the Company
  • Managing Organizational effectiveness
  • Development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy for the
    management of the UEGCL’s Knowledge
  • In charge of the development and implementation of employee performance
    and productivity strategies
  • Development and implementation of a recognition and reward system
  • Responsible for the provision of advisory support to Management on
    matters related to the development and retention of the Company’s human
    capital
  • Strategic deployment of human capital to support the changing business
    requirements of the Company
  • Development and implementation of an effective grievance management
    system and disciplinary mechanism for the Company
  • Preparation of Human Resource related Reports, budgets and work
    plans
  • Development and Implementation of performance appraisal system
  • Take lead in the identification of knowledge and skills gaps in the
    company from time to time and advising Management on the same
  • Assisting the Internal Audit function in identifying, mitigating and
    management of Human Resource related risks
  • Development, review, updating and implementation of relevant Human
    Resource and Employee relation policies in liaison with the Company Secretary
  • Management of employee cost controls
  • Development and administration of a competitive compensation and
    benefits structure for the Company
  • Take charge of the establishment and maintenance of Human Resource
    Information Systems
  • Assisting the Company Secretary in ensuring the compliance with
    Laws, Regulations, rules relating to Human Resource Management issues and
    the management of the Employer Employee relations
  • Development and implementation of a comprehensive Exit Procedures
    System
  • Development and administration of effective recruitment systems
    (policies , processes and tools) in order to attract the right talent,
    skills and competencies for the Company based on the changing business
    requirements
  • Oversee the restructuring, downsizing processes as and when required
  • Responsible for occupational, health and safety of the staff and
    development and administration of the requisite systems
  • Identify the ethical and social responsibility requirements for the
    Company and its employees and develop suited systems
  • Advising Management and staff on matters related to Human Resource
    Management
  • Perform any other duties
    as required.
Qualifications,
Skills & Experience:
  • The ideal candidate should possess a good bachelor’s degree in Human
    Resource Management or related discipline like Social Sciences, Business
    Administration
  • Possession of Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management is a must
  • Relevant professional qualification in Human Resource Management
    will be an added advantage
  •  At least seven years’ experience
    in handling Human Resource Management matters at Senior Management Level
  • Significant experience in using Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS)
    and MS Office applications
  • Possess a high degree of integrity
  • Effective communication skills Leadership skills
  • Practical experience in supporting business at strategic level
  • Good human relation skills
  • Good technical skills
  • Excellent conceptual and design skills
  • Past experience in managing diversity
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the laws, rules and regulations
    relating to Human Resource Management
  • Knowledge and experience in modern Human Resource Management & Development best practices
  • Possess the ability to understand performance appraisal processes
    Experience in a Senior Management role for at least four years
  • Be a good team Player Staff
  • Prior supervision skills
  • Effective Writing skills
  • Excellent planning skills
  • Good mediation and counselling skills
Age: Above 35 years Old
