About SSASHEW:
The Government of Uganda is implementing a Project “Strengthening Safeguards, Safety and Health at Workplaces (SSASHEW) (2013/14 – 2017/18), under the Ministry of Gender, Labour Social Development whose objective is to promote safeguards, safety and health measures at workplaces.
The project is being implemented in fifty (50) districts of Uganda focusing on handling safeguards, safety and health concerns in the areas of oil and gas exploration and production, manufacturing, tourism, construction sites and public workplaces/offices.
Job Summary: The Health Information Management Specialist shall manage the information system on a day-to -day basis integrating the contribution of team members. The system is key to making current Occupational Safety and Health Information and tools available to user groups.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Knowledge Transfer:
  • Build electronic texts online learning environments by writing abstracts and instructions for resources and tools, developing interactive tutorials and other educational activities, and finding and posting timely bulletins.
  • Create new knowledge in the form of reports, online help, tutorials, and other documents relevant to project work
  • Instruct OSH professional and others in the use of knowledge- based resources in an electronic environment. Instruction may take place at workshops, conferences and meetings, both in-person, electronically and via web conferencing.
  • Measure the impact of knowledge management initiatives.
2. Project Management:
  • Develop plans and timelines for carrying out the projects
  • Communicate regularly with project stakeholders to ensure their needs are being met.
  • Work with the tripartite and OSHIMS Task-force team to ensure that all project obligations is met in a reasonable timeframe.
  • Work in liaison with diverse groups such as associations/ societies, libraries, knowledge distributors, vendors, and others whose interests and objectives match those of the project.
  • Secure the use of resources by negotiating with vendors.
  • Facilitate workshops by coordinating with instructors, learners, organizers, and other groups as needed.
3. Technology Use and Enhancement:
  • Offer end user support services (related to content)
  • Develop customized online learning environments.
  • Collaborate with technical team by translating user needs to further enhance existing technologies
  • Actively participate in research activities, including assisting with writing and submitting articles for publication
  • Contribute to project operations, as a member of the project.
  • Contribute to orientation and training of new staff
  • Perform any other duties as assigned to you by your supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The candidate must hold a Masters level degree in information Technology & Management.  A keen interest in OSH informatics, knowledge management, and/or demonstrated experience in e-learning and evidence-based practice is an asset.
  • High interest and proficiency with computers, database management and various software programs including OSH.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Exhibit high commitment to service and client-oriented
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision but thrive in o highly dynamic, energetic and demanding team.
