About NEMA:
The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) was established under the National Environment Act Cap. 153 to coordinate, monitor, enforce and supervise all activities in the field of environment for purposes of ensuring sustainable development in Uganda.
Job Summary: The GIS Remote Sensing Officer offer up to date environmental database information for use within NEMA and Uganda for environmental management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:-
  • Organizing and carrying out all data inputs activities including digitization;
  • Organizing and managing the database of information collected;
  • Storing and retrieving all data sets held in the database;
  • Performing analyses as required by each individual program, project or activity;
  • Preparing and updating data catalogues;
  • Preparing out puts as required by each individual program, project or activity
  • Ensuring all equipment for the GIS remote sensing laboratory are properly kept;
  • Keeping proper records of all GIS/RS laboratory equipment and materials;
  • Controlling the use of the GIS/RS facilities by ensuring that only authorized persons use the facilities;
  • Perform any other relevant responsibilities as may be assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal applicant for the aforementioned GIS Opportunity must hold a Master’s degree in Environment related disciplines;
  • Five or more years’ working experience with the use of GIS preferably ArcGIS;
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of working with Geo databases and data base applications.
  • Possess the capacity to work with minimum supervision
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High ethics, integrity
  • Good report writing skills
  • Possess the ability to work under pressure and to make accurate and informed decisions.
  • Excellent analytical and coordinating skills
  • Ability to work independently and with strong organizational and planning skills.
