Job Summary: The Finance Manager will
ensure that an effective financial management system for AMREF Uganda is in
place. The incumbent will steer the development of AMREF capacity to deliver
the objectives set forth for the finance and ICT department in support of
AMREF’s short and long term objectives (reflected through the Strategic Plan
and Key Performance Indicators). The job holder will provide financial
technical support to AMREF in Uganda with regard to offering guidance on
budgetary issues in regard to expenditure and controls, financial project
reporting, management reporting and operations. The job holder will carry out
relevant financial training to programme/project staff, administrative support
and basic HR support.
Key Duties &
Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement and
    maintain good financial policies and systems.
  • Make certain that
    proper books of account are maintained and kept up to date within AMREF
    policy guidelines.
  • Monitor the overall
    financial performance and reporting. Monitor cash call down requests and
    cash flow management.
  • Ensure compliance and
    adherence to statutory requirements.
  • Actively facilitate
    internal and external audits and respond to queries, observed and ensuring
    that recommendations are implemented.
  • Manage overall work
    process of the finance and ICT departments by ensuring effective work
    assignments, supervision and staff development.
  • Ensure timely and
    accurate donor reporting.
  • Ensure that donor
    contracts are in line with donor requirements and AMREF standards.
  • Manage budgetary and
    toward planning for the AMREF Uganda Country Programme.
  • Ensure and enhance
    automation of key processes.
  • Ensure availability
    ICT resources to support projects and all departments of AMREF
  • Perform other duties as assigned by
    superiors.
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate
    must hold an MBA in finance or closely related area a must.
  • Possession of a
    Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Finance or a
    closely related area.
  • Possession of a
    professional qualification CPA (U), ACCA, finance or closely related area.
  • Practical experience
    in project, financial and management accounting.
  • Computer literacy
    skills
  • At least five years’
    experience as a senior manager in a similar size NGO or company,
    overseeing multi- departmental responsibilities including administration,
    HR and finance.
  • Advanced knowledge and
    experience with accounting and/or financial management software and MS
    Office applications an added advantage.
  • Extensive knowledge of
    Uganda’s financial and tax regulations, especially those pertaining to
    non-governmental or not- for-profit organizations.
  • Past exposure and
    experience in SUN Systems Accounting software.
  • Excellent analytical,
    numeracy and management skills.
