Living Goods supports a network of over 600 micro-entrepreneurs in Uganda who teach families in their communities how to improve health and well-being while selling affordable, high-impact products like basic medicines, fortified foods, water filters, clean cook-stoves, and solar lights.
Job Summary: The Living Goods Chief Accountant will be responsible for leading and managing the accounting function of Living Goods Uganda. This will be a key role in supporting Living Goods’ operations with responsibilities included but not limited to: managing general ledger and QuickBooks transactions, preparation of monthly reconciliations, fixed asset management, and updating the POS system. Gradually this position will expand to cover accounting functions for Kenya and the USA.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all general ledger accounts and daily posting of transactions into QuickBooks accounting system.
- Responsible for timely closure of the general ledger on a monthly basis (both Kenya and Uganda).
- Preparation of all respective monthly reconciliations and journals (bank reconciliation, inter-company reconciliation, supplier reconciliation, staff receivables reconciliation, inventory reconciliation, petty cash reconciliation).
- Intuitively review of payment vouchers to ensure they are supported by supplier reconciliations and all other relevant documents.
- Establish and monitor relationships with creditors and debtors.
- Responsible for monthly payroll preparations and statutory deductions monthly returns.
- Responsible for fixed assets management and maintenance of a proper fixed assets register.
- Monthly review of balance sheet accounts.
- Responsible for updating the POS with price changes and other promotional drives as will be communicated from time to time.
- Responsible for sales collection reconciliation ensuring all sales collections at branches are banked.
- Responsible for monthly inventory reconciliation and follow up on any shrink identified.
- Participate fully in implementation of financial controls and procedures.
- Perform any other accounting tasks that will be allocated from time to time
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The candidate should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or other related field from a recognized university.
- Professional qualification in accounting; CPA or ACCA.
- The candidate must have a strong background in accounting with a minimum of four years’ experience in a similar role and working knowledge of ERP and Quickbooks.
- You may be a fit for Living Goods if you embody a combination of entrepreneurial tenacity and a strong drive for continuous learning and improvement.
- Past exposure and experience and working knowledge of an ERP and accounting packages. Experience using QuickBooks will be an added advantage.
- Past exposure and experience in the retail industry will be an added advantage.
