Job Summary: The WWF UCO Regional Energy Officer will support in the implementation of sustainable energy initiatives as part of the WWF Regional Office for Africa Vision 2020 and associated Country Strategies and Action Plans in line with the WWF policies and guidelines. Furthermore, s/he will monitor the implementation of key strategic energy interventions coordinated at the Regional Office for Africa including among others; the Sustainable Energy Access Forums (SEAFs), the ROA Component of the project on integrating environmental and social concerns in oil and gas development in Africa and the strengthening civil society on sustainable energy initiative in line with WWF policies and guidelines
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor the integration of sustainable and renewable energy aspirations into Country Office conservation plans and strategies and Implement energy projects, programmes and activities in line with the ROA Energy objectives, WWF standards, values and principles.
- Document and share key energy developments with supervisor and key stakeholders in line with WWF communications guidelines and ROA Energy objectives.
- Develop resource mobilization projects/initiatives and research proposals for the development of the Regional Office for Africa Energy programme with the supervisor and key stakeholders in accordance with WWF Network standards and funding agency guidelines.
- Develop, coordinate and maintain strategic partnerships and public engagements/interventions such as communication campaigns on key regional energy issues in line with the ROA Energy objectives.
- Develop and monitor the implementation of the programme M&E framework for monitoring the progress and impact of the Regional Energy Hub action plan in line with regional energy strategy and M&E guidelines
- Actively monitor the implementation of key strategic energy interventions at the Regional Office for Africa, for integrating environmental and social concerns in oil and gas development in Africa and the strengthening civil society on sustainable energy initiative in line with the Regional Energy guidelines.
- Develop and monitor annual operational ROA Energy work plans and budgets for in line with the approved ROA Energy action plans, planning and budgeting guidelines.
- Offer adequate technical and management support to ongoing energy projects at the Regional Office for Africa Energy Hub and Country Offices with key strategic partners in line with WWF guidelines.
- Offer logistical and administrative support to the Regional Energy Hub in liaison with the WWF UCO Finance and Administration team at the host Country and Regional Offices in line with WWF guidelines.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should preferably hold a postgraduate degree in Renewable/Sustainable Energy management or Environment and Natural Resources Management
- Possess a good Bachelor’s degree (honours) in Renewable/Sustainable Energy management or Environment and Natural Resources
- Five or more years’ experience in managing sustainable energy related programmes.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting research on energy, environment and natural resources.
- Prior experience in programme development and management.
- Demonstrated experience in monitoring and evaluation.
- Past exposure and experience in sustainable energy related-programme implementation.
- Prior experience in civil society organizational capacity development, communication, networking, lobbying and advocacy for natural resources management is a must;
- Demonstrated experience in mentorship and capacity building.
- Effective oral and written communication of technical sustainable energy issues to both technical and non-technical audiences; networking and good interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English and at least one other major language spoken in Africa region
- (Swahili, French, and Portuguese)
- Excellent conceptual, analytical and innovative problem-solving ability;
- Good knowledge and understanding of key energy issues in Africa;
- Proven ability to handle complex processes and information integration issues;
- Ability to implement alone or as part of a team major capacity building activities, planning, development and implementation of capacity building initiatives;
- Ability to maintain effective working relations both as a team member and team leader;
- Ability to remain effective under circumstances of minimum supervision.
- Proven interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural, multi-interest, multi-ethnic environment;
- Capacity of assuming a leading role, often in situations under pressure, in defining and implementing projects with teams of individuals of different culture and background;
- Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to multi-task under limited supervision.
