through the Office of the Prime Minister has received credit financing from the
Islamic Development Bank (IDB), for the Dry Lands Integrated Development
Project to be implemented in the Karamoja Sub region (Project reference number UG-0082-83).
The Office of the Prime Minister will implement the Drylands Integrated
Development Project through Millennium Promise Alliance Inc. an International
Non-Profit Organisation solely committed to supporting the achievement of the
Millennium Development Goals through the Millennium Villages Projects (MVPs) in
10 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa. The Dry Lands Integrated Development
Project will implement multi sectoral interventions aimed at holistically
addressing challenges faced by pastoralist communities that directly contribute
to the objective of reducing vulnerability, building resilience, and
accelerating the achievements of the UN Millennium Development Goals mainly in
the districts of Moroto, Napak, Nakapiripiriti and Amudat.
Enterprise and Cooperatives Facilitator will be the field focal point person in
the process of re-activation and/or formation of cooperatives and other legal
business organizations in the duster leading to the establishment of viable,
strong and sustainable legal institutions with a business acumen to serve the
interests of community members. S/he will further play a role in implementation
of interventions aimed at transforming subsistence farming to business
enterprises with on-farm and off-farm income opportunities. S/he will be
responsible for the on ground implementation of Enterprise and cooperatives
development interventions
- Guide
communities in the process of the formation and build their capacity in
formation and profitable functioning of cooperatives, businesses, and
common interests groups - Ensure
realisation of proper market linkages and development of value chains
based on cooperative principles and values - Develop
and implement business plans for cooperative/groups: - With
guidance from the coordinator, offers Technical Advice in all areas of
business development and cooperatives - Nurture
effective partnership with NGOs, CBOs, private sector and donors that are
active in Business development and sustainability. - Work
hand in hand with the agriculture and Livestock sectors to ensure
agricultural interventions are integrated with the Business Development in
order to maximize impact on household income. - Work
closely with the coordinator, undertake capacity building activities such
as trainings and workshops targeting District extension staff, Sector
staff, MVP staff, farmer groups, cooperative members and other
stakeholders. - Carry
out routine monitoring of the performance for community business groups
performance in business - Ensure
the profitable implementation of the funded business plans together with
the community members
- The
candidate should possess a three or more years’ experience in
cooperatives’ management and Microfinance or a business related first
degree with two years cooperative management experience - Past
exposure and experience working with financial institutions and other
business related environment. - Significant
experience in rural and semi urban microfinance - Past
exposure and experience in cooperatives formation and capacity building - Computer
literacy in word process and spreadsheets - Good
and effective communication skills - Excellent
interpersonal skills that build trust and confidence in order to motivate,
influence and pursued others - Excellent
problem solving skills - Possess
the ability to work well under pressure and effectively handle multiple,
concurrent demands and appropriately prioritise responsibilities - Proven
experience working with Rural business groups - Willingness
and ability to work and reside in the field for at least 90% of the time. - Possession
of a motor cycle riding permit & good riding ability is a plus. - Readiness
to ride a motorcycle for work is a must. - Knowledge
of the Karamoja working environment is a plus.
