About RUFORUM:
The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), established in 2004, is a consortium of 42 universities in 19 countries of Eastern, Central and Southern Africa (ECSA). The organisation evolved from the Forum on Agricultural Resource Husbandry (FORUM) program of the Rockefeller Foundation. RUFORUM is registered as an International Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and has mandate to oversee graduate training and networks of specialization in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). RUFORUM has an MoU with the African Union for strengthening science, technology and innovation capacity in Africa.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Intuitively analyse RUFORUM’s financial performance and develop short, medium and long term budget forecasts.
  • Make sure that expenditure is within approved budgetary provisions and in line with financial governance and control requirements.
  • Review and supervise implementation of the processing and financial control mechanisms within the financial management system.
  • Analyse financial data for income and expenditure; and carry out variance analysis on budget, identify added value reporting for trend analysis and provide commentary that facilitates forecasting and budgeting requirements.
  • Compile and submit periodic or monthly management accounts and other financial reports.
  • Monitor and report on expenditure trends against actual performance/deliverables and assist in audit preparation.
  • Work closely with service providers to manage FMS
  • Review RUFORUM’s financial management system and analyse risk.
  • Review all financial reports prepared by other lower level finance staff.
  • Interpret and communicate financial data and information.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The candidate should possess a good Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Finance and Accounting option), Business Administration (Finance and Accounting option) or equivalent.
  • Professional accounting certification like Association of Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
  • A minimum of  three years’ experience in audit/finance position with recognized organization
  • Ability to understand intricate business principles and develop strategic recommendations on finance.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting systems implementation.Ability to use financial and accounting software applications.
  • Should be a team player.
  • Ability to undertake critical analysis of budget processes, expenditure control, budget performance and problems on finance and accounting.
  • Ability to effectively analyse, summarise and communicate complex financial information.
  • Possess the ability to work calmly under pressure.
  • Ability to attend to detail, focus on quality and spot errors or mistakes at an early stage.
