Job Summary:  The Transport/Fleet Assistant will work to ensure that the all aspects of transport operations for the business are fully executed and in line with business needs and procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Ensure motor vehicles and trailers are not overloaded.
  • Make sure that all vehicles will operate within speed limits.
  • Monitor vehicles and trailers, including hired vehicles and trailers are kept fit and serviceable in keeping with the current legislation.
  • Monitor defect recording and reporting systems and ensure drivers report promptly and defect or symptoms or defects that could prevent the safe operations of vehicles and or trailers, and that any defects are promptly recorded in writing.
  • Maintain records of all driver defects reports, all safety inspections, routine maintenance and repairs to vehicles and trailers and these are made available on request.
  • Compile and submit Intermediate reports to management on non-compliance and report any observations relating to the daily operations of goods vehicles.
  • Recommendation to management of disciplinary action where required for failing to operate within the set guidance.
  • Carry out driving license and qualification checks.
  • Keep up to date with advancements affecting the operation of goods vehicles.
  • Monitor and assess vehicle operations incentive schemes if applicable.
  • Negotiate/liaise with contractors and suppliers.
  • Motor vehicles – administrate purchase/allocate/dispose
  • Perform any other duties required by the role.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant should hold a good Diploma or Bachelor in Transport and Logistics Management.
  • Possess clean driver’s license.
  • A minimum of three or more years’ experience in the transport industry
  • At least two/three years transport management experience
  • Knowledge of all aspects of transport management
  • Working knowledge in business planning and managing budgets
  • Health & Safety and Hygiene legislation
  • Transport legislation
  • Leadership & negotiation skills
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills (including presentations)
  • High level of literacy and numeracy
  • Excellent inter-personal skills
  • Management skills; time management, training, coaching, networking, planning, organization, problem solving and multi-tasking
  • Computer literacy skills i.e. IT including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
