About NARO:
The National Agricultural
Research Organisation is established by the National Agricultural Research Act
2005 as a body corporate with the mandate to provide strategic direction for
publically funded agricultural research in Uganda. The organisation is composed
of the Council as its governing body, Committees of Council, a Secretariat for
its day-to-day operations with semi-autonomous Public Agricultural Research
Institutes (PARI’s) under its policy guidance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • In
    charge of establishing and regularly updating baseline information for
    agricultural productivity and marketing in the zone.
  • Collect,
    collate and analyze data pertaining peoples’ livelihoods and farming
    systems including cost-benefit analysis in the zone.
  • Avail
    results from the 2 items above to the team at the center/institute for
    formulating appropriate innovations and interventions.
  • Responsible
    for the design and spearhead impact assessment studies in the zone.
  • Conduct
    studies on production and financial sustainability of recommended
    technologies.
  • Take
    lead in the monitoring and evaluation of technology development and
    dissemination.
    
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    applicants for the Socio Economist Job opportunity should hold a Master’s
    Degree in Agricultural Economics, Economic Policy, Development Economics
    or any other relevant discipline from a recognised University
  • A
    minimum of three or more years of relevant working experience.
