Job Summary: The Biophysical Technicians responsible
for the collection of both biophysical and environmental data using weather
stations, soil-surveys, vegetation surreys, rapid-assessment protocols and
stream monitoring devices (as described in the available project protocols).
The incumbents shall collect, record, process measurements, enter data, as well
as perform any other tasks as assigned by their supervisor.

The incumbents shall collect, record, process measurements, enter data, as well
as perform any other tasks as assigned by their supervisor.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible
for the day to day collection of biophysical data such as Rapid Roadside
Assessment, vegetation and soil data using data logging forms/ data
recording devices. - Performs
preliminary soil analysis is done in the field for soil texture and pH, as
directed in the supplied Vital Signs protocols. - In
charge of preliminary data-checking and quality control, and ensuring
transmission of data to the Vital Signs server using tablets after
approval by Biophysical Technical Manager. - Processing
all soil samples, water samples, biodiversity and plant samples collected
from the field, and packing and labeling them as directed in the
protocols. - Meeting
with supervisor daily to discuss work progress and planning for next day
duties.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The
ideal candidate should possess a minimum of a Diploma in Agriculture,
Forestry or Environmental Sciences. A BSc degree in similar fields is
preferred. - A
minimum of two years’ experience in conducting fieldwork and data
collection in agriculture, cleaning soils, vegetation, water and weather
measurements. - Flexibility
and ability to learn new skills - Highly
proficient and skilled in the use of tools like GPS, data loggers, tablets
and others - Good
interpersonal skills to maintain cooperation with the field team - Ability
to work under pressure with minimal supervision - Ability
to work outside normal business hours and spending a lot of time in remote
areas as may be required in the field - Possess
the ability to travel long distances to access study points with equipment
and samples
