Country Programmes in seven African countries plus the UK and USA, together

Job Summary: The Head of
Programme Funding will steer the development and implementation of Programme
Fundraising for Send a Cow country programmes, primarily from institutional
donors in the UK, Europe and USA, and to support Programme Fundraising staff
within the African Country Programmes. To ensure high quality relationships
with existing institutional donors, whilst also broadening the funding base. To
secure core project funding to enable the Send a Cow programme to grow. The
incumbent will lead and manage the Programme Funding team, to network with
current and potential donors, to lead the development of potential funding
opportunities, ensure that prospect research, fundraising applications, logical
frameworks and budgets, and grant management are carried out to an excellent
standard to meet the needs of a growing organisation, The Head of Programme
Funding will be expected to travel within the UK, Europe, the USA, Africa and
elsewhere as appropriate for networking and development purposes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop
and maintain the strategic direction of the Programme Funding team and
contribute to SAC strategic development - Develop
a good understanding of the work of Send a Cow in Africa and the context
and policy framework within which it works - Develop
and maintain a good understanding of the wider NGO context - Develop
and maintain a good understanding of the wider aims, strategic objectives
and policies of the institutional donor community - Take
lead in and contribute ideas to, prospect development - Develop
new contacts with donors and positive partnerships with other NGOs for
collaboration on project implementation and joint funding initiatives,
working closely with the team, and senior Group and Country Programme
staff. - Ensure
that the team maintains excellent relationships with existing donors - Personally
manage a number of key donor relationships - Conduct
prospect research into potential donors and partners to identify new
funding opportunities for SAC Country Programmes. - Manage
the team’s development of excellent funding applications that include
logical frameworks, activity plans, clearly written narrative proposals
and detailed budgets which maximise recovery of full project costs, in
collaboration with Country Programme teams. - Hold
overall responsibility to ensure that grant contracts are well managed, so
that donor requirements are fulfilled in a timely manner. - Ensure
SAC systems are used appropriately to keep up to date files and records of
all programme funding activities. - Technically
support in-country capacity building. - Maintain
close communication and collaboration with all Fundraisers across SAC
(including in the US and UK) to ensure that, working together, programmes
are fully funded and risk is well managed, making optimal use of the range
of income sources at SAC’s disposal. - Build
and maintain close relationships with Country Directors, Programme staff,
Finance and the Research and Impact team to ensure quality and
appropriateness of Programme Funding activity. - Take
part in the leadership and strategic development of SAC, and any other
activities as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The
applicant should hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree. Possession of a
Master’s degree is desirable - A
minimum of five or more years’ experience in a senior management position - Working
knowledge of a significant sized local and/or international NGO - Past
experience of motivating a team - Skills
and experience of budgeting - Successful
record of project proposal development, submission for funding, and grants
contract management - Excellent
track record of developing funding opportunities with a range of
institutional donors - Fluent
spoken and written English - Excellent
communication and selling skills – both written and verbal - Strong
interpersonal skills and the ability to work co-operatively leading a
team, and as a contributor to a team - Strong
numeracy skills - Networking
