Job Summary: The Anti-Money Laundering Analyst will support the Money
Laundering Risk Officer to ensure that the BBU business operate in accordance
with Group, Barclays Africa and Uganda Anti Money Laundering   policies and procedures,  Barclays Principal Risks and local regulatory
requirements. The incumbent will also support the development of compliant, flexible
and robust systems, procedures and controls to deliver to the business
anti-money laundering objectives and improve the business performance in these
areas. The jobholder will also support the development and implementation of a
proactive strategy to combat money laundering, sanctions breaking and other
financial crimes. The
Anti-Money Laundering Analyst will steer the review and monitoring of suspicious transactions in
accordance with the requirements of Barclays Africa framework and local
standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Operational
Support and Coordination: 70%
  • Conduct analytical reviews of Anti Money
    Laundering   reports and perform
    trend analysis of suspicious transactions
  • Ensure that suspicious activity reports are produced
    and escalated in accordance with the Minimum Operating Standards
  • Carry out volume/ value analysis to determine
    appropriate thresholds to be used for suspicious transaction alerts
    monitoring.
  • Offer comprehensive training and guidance to Anti
    Money Laundering   Analyst on the
    identification/investigation/ review of suspicious transactions.
  • Guide the business in understanding the RBA to Anti
    Money Laundering   compliance and
    assist them in compiling appropriate customer profiles.
  • Maintain logs, distribution logs, and version control
    of Anti Money Laundering   policy,
    procedure and related documents (electronic and manual).
  • Develop action plans based on findings in suspicious
    transaction reviews and monitor execution of such plans.
  • Perform annual reviews of suspicious transaction
    limits set across each of the business type.
  • Maintain logs of Anti Money Laundering   breaches and fines and SAR raised and
    reported.
  • Establish and maintain a proper electronic filing
    system for critical suspicious activity reports.
  • Obtain annual coverage plans on Know Your Customer,
    Anti Money Laundering   and
    Sanctions and monitor status on a continuous basis and report any
    deviations to MLRO/Head of Compliance.
  • Provide appropriate information to the Money
    Laundering Risk Officer by collating appropriate, accurate and reliable MI
    to effectively manage compliance risks on Anti Money Laundering   reviews.
  • Intuitively evaluate and challenge information
    received from the business with the objective of achieving continuous
    improvement in Anti Money Laundering  
    compliance.
  • Follow up on the implementation of action plans to
    resolve all issues identified in Barclays Internal Audits of Anti Money
    Laundering   and monitor completion
    of remedial activities, and inform the Money Laundering Risk Officer on
    the progress.
2. Reporting
and Training: 20%
  • Collate and draft consolidated Anti Money Laundering
    compliance report and other reports as required by the Money Laundering
    Risk Officer within deadlines set and send to the Money Laundering Risk
    Officer.
  • Report and escalate all Anti Money Laundering   compliance risks and issues arising
    from the Uganda business promptly and appropriately in accordance with
    Group and local legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Report any deviations from the annual coverage plan
    to the Money Laundering Risk Officer.
  • Keep the Money Laundering Risk Officer informed on
    compliance matters which may pose financial or reputational risks for the
    business.
  • Quickly respond promptly to information requests from
    the Money Laundering Risk Officer, Barclays Africa and Group
  • Provide appropriate information to the Head of
    Compliance on a daily, weekly and monthly basis by collating appropriate,
    accurate and reliable MI to effectively manage compliance risks.
3. Stakeholder
Relationships: 10%
  • Support the Money Laundering Risk Officer by ensuring
    the effective coordination of information on a continuous basis.
  • Establish close working relationship with Money
    Laundering Risk Officer to ensure support for the Compliance framework.
  • Work closely with Relationship Managers and Branch
    Managers to obtain necessary information on the Anti Money Laundering   review process to facilitate closure of
    investigations within stipulated turnaround times
  • Support to facilitate effective and constructive
    sharing of knowledge and experience of Anti Money Laundering   issues across Barclays Africa
    Compliance.
  • Discuss current issues with Money Laundering Risk
    Officer and escalate or resolve these issues where possible.
3. Team

    deliver across the business area.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    applicant should have advanced knowledge of the Barclays Anti Money
    Laundering  /Know Your Customer
    /Sanctions/Politically Exposed People’s Policies and procedures
  • Sound
    knowledge of local AML Policies and other compliance requirements.
  • Specialist
    knowledge of the Group AML/KYC/Sanctions/Pep’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Sound
    knowledge of local AML Policies and other compliance requirements.
  • Comprehensive
    knowledge of risk management skills, methodology and processes.
  • Excellent
    working knowledge of MS Office applications with a high exposure to
    spreadsheet analysis
  • Comprehensive
    working knowledge of risk management skills, methodology and processes.
  • Excellent
    working knowledge of MS Office applications with a high exposure to
    spreadsheet analysis
  • Possess excellent analytical skills
