Haven, CT, with offices in Washington, D.C. and worldwide, IPA works with
development partners and academic researchers to create and evaluate approaches
to solving development problems, to communicate “what works” in development and
to scale up successful projects in a variety of fields, including health,
education, microfinance, governance and agriculture.
Job Summary: The
Innovations for Poverty Action Research Associate will support and monitor the
implementation of the Transparency, Accountability and Anti-Corruption (TAAC)
component of the NUSAF2 program in northern Uganda, carry out qualitative
follow-ups with participants, and support the survey design for the endline
survey. The goal of the work is to observe the quality of program
implementation to ensure the program is meeting the goals and that the program
is impacting individuals according to the theory of change.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Responsible
    for the active monitoring of the TAAC component of the NUSAF2 program
  • In
    charge of formulating plans to operationalize field activities suggested
    by Principal Investigators
  • Conducting
    qualitative surveys
  • Responsible
    for developing and piloting survey instruments
  • Planning,
    organizing and reporting on field activities
  • Keenly
    tracking expenses and adhering to the project budget
  • Writing
    and submitting regular progress reports
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidates for the Research Associate vacancy should hold a
    Bachelor’s degree in economics, social sciences, public policy, or related
    fields; a Master’s degree in any of these fields is a strong plus
  • Proven
    ability to conduct data analysis in STATA and experience with data
    management
  • Excellent
    management and organizational skills
  • High
    degree of flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to prioritize and
    manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision
  • Excellent
    track record of executing complex tasks within tight timeline
  • Past
    experience conducting field research in a developing country is strongly
    preferred. Previous experience with impact evaluations and/or randomized
    controlled trials is a strong plus
