Straight Talk Foundation is an
indigenous health communications NGO operating nationally in Uganda through the
provision of quality behaviour change programs. Straight Talk Foundation (STF)
is a Ugandan health communication NGO registered in 1997.
Job Summary:  The Midwives will provide care and support to
expectant mothers, attending to the health needs of the pregnant women.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Diagnosing,
    monitoring and examining women during pregnancy;
  • Developing,
    assessing and evaluating individual programmes of care;
  • Identifying
    high risk pregnancies and making referrals to doctors and other medical
    specialists;
  • Arranging
    and providing parenting and health education;
  • Providing
    counseling and advice before and after screening and tests; taking samples,
    pulses, temperatures and blood pressures
  • Provide
    support and advice following events such as miscarriage, termination,
    stillbirth, neonatal abnormality and neonatal death;
  • Supervising
    and assisting mothers in labour, monitoring the condition of the foetus
    and using knowledge of drugs and pain management;
  • Providing
    support and advice on the daily care of the baby, including breastfeeding,
    bathing and making up feeds;
  • Liaising
    with agencies and other health and social care professionals to ensure
    continuity of care;
  • Preparing
    work plans and writing activity reports.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    candidate should hold a Diploma in Midwifery is essential
  • Three
    years’ experience in a medical setting.
  • The
    applicant should be registered with the Allied Health professionals.
  • Ability
    to deal with emotionally charged situatipns
  • Excellent
    team working skills
  • Excellent
    interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong
    observational skills
  • Keen
    interest in the process of pregnancy and birth
