45 countries and serves manufacturers of cigarettes and other consumer tobacco
products in over 90 countries.
Alliance One’s revenues are
primarily comprised of sales of processed tobacco and fees charged for related
services to manufacturers of consumer tobacco products around the world. They
do not manufacture cigarettes or other consumer tobacco products.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • In
    charge of setting up leaf classification (internal grade) standards for
    use by leaf classifiers at the buying centres.
  • Actively
    monitor and control uniform re-classification standards of Re-graders
    across Uganda by populating the formal feedback systems from the blending
    line to buying station.
  • Ensure
    customer chemistry, smoke and physical grade standards are maintained and
    are uniform across packings. To ensure this, he will manage blending line
    martialling operations and picking.
  • Responsible
    for the creation of accurate and timely crop profiles by conducting &
    coordinating with other field staff in the ‘off-season’ operations.
  • Ensure
    that crop and grading standards are aligned to customer demand by
    providing regular, effective and consistent. feedback/communication
    through appropriate sample taking, refresher & evaluation of
    classifiers.
  • Ensures
    highest quality standards in handling and presentation on the GLT line.
  • Encourages
    logistics, blend martialling and picking staff to efficient, timely and
    accurate operations.
  • Influences
    GLT and logistics management to maintain highest levels of hygiene,
    supervision and customer standards.
  • The
    incumbent will manage sample collection, classification and storage for
    training, crop set-up and calibration processes.
  • Packed
    runs match agreed master samples, physical specifications met and
    chemistry variations within acceptable limits. Inspection procedures
    carried out and recorded OTIF.
  • NTRM
    and other customer rejections minimised and eliminated where possible.
  • Work
    closely with GLT shift management to ensure all aspects of quality and
    specifications are met while optimising throughput.
  • Work
    well with Growing staff to provide collated crop profiles to the Blender
    as directed to help determine current crop buying strategy and future crop
    profile plans.
  • Support
    the required building of customers relationship that inspire confidence in
    AOTU’s to deliver aspects of demand.
  • Build
    relationships with logistics & GLT to facilitate  optimised green logistics.
  • Identifies
    feedback mechanisms that ensure highest grading, EHS and logistical standards.
  • Identifies
    innovations in procedures throughout the green leaf supply chain that
    facilitates the elimination of NTRM, crop contamination & damage.
  • Identify
    any new, best practices in the green supply chain processes that improve
    business efficiency.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    applicant should preferably hold a Diploma – preferably in natural &
    agricultural sciences
  • A
    minimum of four years’ experience in tobacco leaf growing, classification
    or blending
  • The
    candidate should have extensive & innate leaf knowledge/skills
  • Preferably
    an adequate judge of tobacco smoke.
  • Good
    knowledge and understanding the importance of tobacco grading/ physical
    processing quality.
  • Possess
    excellent communication skills (spoken and written), ·
  • Self-confidence/drive.
  • Fluent
    command of English
