About UNDP Peace Architecture for Conflict Transformation Project:
UNDP CO together with key
national counterparts have jointly conceived a project to strengthen national
capacities for peace and conflict transformation. Bringing together key state
and non-state institutions and creating a multilayered response to lasting
peace and stability in the form an architecture that can respond to dynamic
social, economic and political realities of the country is the key focus of
this project. The proposed project interventions are a combination of
institutional capacity development and political level engagement for conflict
transformation. A core premise of the project is that peace is not just about
mitigating and resolving conflicts but also about having structures and means
for collective solutions, consensus building and dialogue. Opportunities of
this nature will help in creating the political space for alternate views and
expressions and therefore preempting possible socio-economic disruptions that
are the result of discontent, street protests and political destabilization.
Job Summary:  The UNDP Project Manager will offer oversight
and implementation support, advisory services and financial management services
in line with UNDP policies and procedures for a Direct Implementation Project
(DIM). The Project Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day
implementation and coordination of project activities, identifying the risks
likely to be faced in the implementation of this project and advising on and
implement agreed ways to overcome or minimize them. The incumbent will also
maintain good working relations with relevant institutions and stakeholders.
The Project Manager is also expected to provide active support to organizing
and delivering on project interventions as requested by the national
counterparts and in collaboration with the programme and operations team at
UNDP.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
The Project Manager will
work under the overall guidance of the UNDP Country Director with day to day
reporting to the UNDP Team Leader Governance;
1. Implementation of project
strategies to ensure effective delivery of project expected results:
  • Provides
    strategic leadership for implementation of the project
  • Undertake
    preparations of Annual and Quarterly project meetings as required and
    facilitate implementation of the project activities in close contact with
    the key national counterparts of the project;
  • Develop
    analytical briefs on areas associated with project and project
    implementation
  • Technically
    support in developing strategic partnerships and sound working relations
    with government and nongovernmental stakeholders for successful
    implementation of project;
  • Render
    support in organizing missions coming in and going out associated with the
    project implementation;
  • Support
    in maintenance of archives, making sure files are properly stored,
    accessible and safe keeping of documents.
  • Ensure
    collation of lessons learned and reports on achievements for wider
    sharing.
  • Provide
    advisory services
  • Carrying
    out regular analysis and prepare briefs on the evolving development trends
    in the country to identify political risks for peace and development in
    the country;
  • Develop
    prospective scenarios towards identifying strategic options and entry
    points for preventive action and strengthening national mechanisms and
    institutions;
  • Support
    in the design of negotiation meetings and facilitate the undertaking of
    multi-stakeholder engagements with national stakeholders associated with
    the three components of  the
    project;
  • Develop
    strategic partnerships and sound working relations with the state,
    non-government national counterparts and development partners for
    successful implementation of project interventions.
2. Undertake Project
Management functions and Project Finance Functions:
  • Develop
    Project Work plans and Progress Reports as per DIM framework;
  • Support
    in preparation of cash-flow projections, monthly budget reports, and other
    aspects of financial management of the portfolio in close conjunction with
    Project Administration and Finance Associate;
  • Technically
    support the preparation of quarterly finance and progress reports, and
    other aspects of financial management in line with UNDP DIM modalities;
  • Undertake
    ATLAS functions (financial management system of UNDP) as required;
  • Ensure
    close synergies of the project with the other outcomes and interventions
    of the wider governance portfolio of the UNDP;
  • Support
    Governance Programme functions, as required, to successful development and
    implementation of governance programme outcomes.
3. Assist in organizing all
associated events of project:
  • Work
    closely with the DIM management functions, undertake preparations of
    project events – organizing workshops, scheduling missions, oversee
    transportation and payment processes for stakeholders, organizing dialogue
    meetings and closed door events;
  • Works
    closely with the Procurement, Finance and Management Support units of UNDP
    to support delivery of project results (in close conjunction with Project
    Administration and Finance Associate);
  • Ensure
    facilitation of documents and other knowledge products to the dialogue
    meetings organized as part of the project support.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate for the United Nations UNDP Career opportunity should hold
    a Master’s degree in social sciences or development studies fields with
    focus on governance issues
  • At
    least seven years of project management experience of working on
    development projects along with managing project finance issues;
  • Past
    experience of handling complex politically sensitive projects;
  • Prior
    experience of working with UN agencies and UNDP is a definite
  • Significant
    experience in engaging with national actors involving multiple
    stakeholders at of various profile (including high level stakeholders);
  • Working
    knowledge of ICT Applications such as MS Word, MS Power Point and Web
    based applications.
Language and IT Skills: Fluency in English in both writing and
speaking.

    governance, peace and development through consultative forums, workshops,
    mentoring and experience sharing;

    to develop evidence-based policy advice;
