Job Summary: The International Organization for
Migration IOM Laboratory Technician
will conduct laboratory procedures as part of the Health Assessment routine
protocols to ensure that identified refugees are medically fit to migrate in
accordance with the medical/health requirements of the resettlement countries

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Ensure
strict adherence to fraud prevention measures in all aspects of work
performed for refugees/migrants. - Ensure
strict adherence to bio-safety measures during specimen collection,
laboratory procedures, disposing of, storing and shipping of specimens. - In
charge of collecting specimen for medical screening or treatment follow-up
of migrants. - Follow
internationally accepted laboratory procedures when processing or sending
out to other laboratories specimens for HIV, Hepatitis, Syphilis,
Tuberculosis, urine and stool examinations. - Ensure
and maintain high quality of performed laboratory tests. - Support
in encoding, updating, and maintaining electronic laboratory records. - Render
support in the preparation and submission laboratory examination reports
on a timely basis. - In
charge of the preparation and submitting of stock orders in time, keeping
stock records and monitoring consumption. - Assist
in managing specimens and laboratory materials shipment. - Implement
and comply with the Internal Quality Assurance System in the laboratory
for performed examinations. - In
charge of the collection of DNA specimens. - The
Laboratory Technician will be in charge of the preparation and updating of
standard operating procedures. - Performs
any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The
applicants for the International Organization for Migration IOM Laboratory Technician vacancy should
hold a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology - The
incumbent must hold a valid license to work as Laboratory Technician in Uganda. - At
least four years of relevant working experience in clinical
laboratory/medical institutions, International Organizations or NGOs
dealing with refugees. - Phlebotomy
experience required, and should be conversant in biological specimen
collection, storing and packaging and transporting. - Past
experience in TB culture laboratory an advantage. - Computer
literacy i.e. proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office. - Languages:
Proficiency in both spoken and written English is mandatory.
Fluency in Swahili is an added advantage.
