About US:
Mengo Hospital was founded in 1897 in
Kampala, and is the oldest hospital in Uganda. It currently serves as an urban
community hospital that provides modern medical care. Mengo Hospital provides
comprehensive care including radiology, obstetrics, dentistry, orthopedics, and
surgery. Additionally, Mengo Hospital provides critical training and education
to health professionals through its various programs in midwifery and nursing,
health sciences, and laboratory technology. Mengo Hospital also has a dedicated
research and development team that works to find new solutions to health issues
in Uganda.
Job Summary: The Quality Assurance Coordinator will mainly
be responsible for conducting hospital reviews and developing patient care
protocols. The fellow will coordinate performance reviews, document best
practices and lessons learned, and continuously suggest improvements to patient
care protocols. Additionally, the Quality Assurance Coordinator will actively monitor
the implementation of systems and strategies for managing quality improvement
(QI) initiatives impacting core clinical processes and critical patient care
functions in line with Ministry of Health (MoH) policy for continuous quality
improvement (CQI).
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
1.
Quality Improvement Systems and Strategies:
·        
Develop
hospital quality improvement strategy and budget
·        
Develop
and monitor the implementation of CQI work plans and manage the CQI budget
·        
Establish
and train functional departmental quality improvement teams
·        
Implement
continuous quality improvement initiatives in accordance with the guidance from
the Health Sector Quality Improvement Framework and Strategic Plan (2010/11 –
2014/15)
·        
Manage
quarterly quality improvement planning to set CQI targets and projects for the
hospital and performance review meetings by QI teams in different departments
·        
Develop
and strengthen the system for monitoring quarterly quality assessment exercises
in the hospital, monthly investigations of incidents by QI teams, and the
feedback process from QI teams in line with MoH guidelines for QI
·        
Build
the capacity of Mengo Hospital health professionals in CQI to promote QI
awareness through trainings, mentorships and support supervision in line with
the CQI training manual of MoH
·        
Carry
out operational CQI research based on documented lessons learned and organize
periodic workshops for key stakeholders to share experiences in line with
research guidelines
·        
Write
and send regular reports on hospital QI initiatives
2.
Hospital Review:
·        
Keenly
analyze clinical audits and data to direct prioritization of quality
improvement initiatives
·        
Analyze
client satisfaction surveys to inform the design of content and care processes
·        
Design
tools for monitoring and evaluation and create systems for data collection and
entry
·        
Plan,
organize and coordinate quality audits in the hospital
·        
Ensure
appropriate maintenance and continuous review of process and policy documents
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
·        
The
ideal candidate for the Global Health Corps job opportunity should hold have a
clinical background (MBCHB, BScN or RN) with additional training in quality improvement/management
in a health care setting, health services management or public health
·        
A background
in statistics or other data gathering methods is highly desired
·        
A
minimum of three years of broad experience and/or understanding of patient care
processes, quality/process improvement or total quality management
·        
Demonstrated
ability to assume responsibility with limited supervision, exercise initiative
and judgment and make decisions within the scope of assigned responsibility
·        
Skills
and experience in data analysis and report writing
·        
Ability
to be self-motivated and take initiative
Job Terms and Conditions: Fellows will be provided with housing,
health insurance and a living stipend of $550/month. Additionally, fellows will
receive an award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year.
Flights to and from the placement site and all other costs associated with GHC
programming are included, including $600 in professional development funds.
Housing will be arranged in in Kampala, an urban center and capital of Uganda.
Note:
The living stipend and completion award may be paid out in USD or local
currency, as determined by the placement organization.
