About US:
National Coalition
for Human Rights Defenders (NCHRD-U) was established in 2013 with 58 members.
The coalition has nearly doubled in size since then, and now consists of 149
individual and organisational members from across the human rights sector in
Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
General Program
support
·
Assist
in mobilization, communication to and reporting on the Coalition membership
periodically as directed by the relevant staff.
·
Assist
to provide support for the organization of campaign events, workshops and activities/
shall spend much of the time in correspondence with speakers, press and
invitees.
·
Support
team during the preparation of activity requisitions, budgets and reports.
·
Adhere
to all administrative, financial and management policies set for NCHRD-U.
·
Perform
any other duties as assigned to by program officers and the Executive Director.
Advocacy and
networking roles
·
Work
with the Advocacy & Networking
Officer on other advocacy tasks to
accomplish NCHRD-U’s Advocacy work
plans
·
Assist
in daily monitoring of relevant news and updates from the media.
·
Assist
to support the process to form networks with various stakeholders especially at
grass root levels to mobilize their support for protection of HRDs.
Communication
roles.
·
Support
the advocacy and networking officer in managing NCHRD-U’s public profile, both
online and offline;
·
Contribute
to NCHRD-U’s media and communication strategy;
·
Produce
regular media and communications output, including press releases, newsletters
through mail-chimp, informative /promotional videos, photos and infographics
·
Maintain
and ensure strategic use of NCHRD-U’s website and social media platforms
(Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube);
·
Design
print and digital promotional materials;
·
Identify,
explore, and utilise strategic chances for communication to highlight the work
of NCHRD-U and the situation of human rights defenders, including online and
offline campaigns;
Capacity building roles
·
Work
with the Capacity Building Officer on other capacity building tasks to
accomplish NCHRD-U’s Capacity
building work plans
·
Assist
in tracking how capacity building initiatives have translated into real
protection for HRDs.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·
The
ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s in IT, Mass communication, Computer
Science, or any other related field.
·
A
minimum of two years’ experience in a
similar position or performing similar tasks.
·
Excellent
written and editing skills, with outstanding attention to detail;
·
Experience
operating audio-visual recording equipment;
·
Knowledge
and experience with WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop,
Premier, and InDesign);
·
Analytical
skills;
·
Highly
developed interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships in a culturally diverse environment;
·
Self-motivated,
organised, and the ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision;
Desirable
·
Familiarity
with the human rights situation in Uganda
·
Fluency
in written and spoken English
