About US:
The
Ministry of Health has received a one-year grant from the Reproductive Maternal
Newborn Child Health (RMNCH) Trust Fund to address key issues affecting
maternal newborn and child survival in selected high burdened, underserved
districts in Karamoja, Western and Busoga regions of Uganda. The project is
going to be implemented by Ministry of Health together with Local Governments. Among
the key issues to be addressed are the inadequacy of Reproductive Maternal
Newborn Child Health core staff especially midwives, inadequate commodities,
supplies and equipment for Reproductive Maternal Newborn Child Health, poor
infrastructure for service, provision, low levels of demand for RMNCH services
and poor leadership for delivery of Reproductive Maternal Newborn Child Health
services at regional and district levels. The planned interventions, which are
aimed at increasing availability, accessibility and utilization of high impact
maternal health interventions at birth and during the postnatal period, in the
selected districts include recruitment of midwives for the intervention
districts, training, mentoring and supervision of the recruited midwives on
high impact maternal health interventions.
Job Summary: The Enrolled midwife will provide midwifery
nursing services and public health interventions to patients and communities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • In charge of receiving patients, registering
    admissions, discharges and deaths
  • Conducting antenatal care with emphasis on
    identifying high risk cases and refer them to hospital
  • Providing care during labour with emphases on
    keeping proper records, use of drugs and prevention of complications to
    mother and baby
  • Providing care during puerperium with
    emphasis on prevention of infection and ansure successful breast feeding
  • Actively taking part in bedside nursing
    procedures as a member of the caring team
  • Responsible for participating in
    doctors/clinical officers ward rounds
  • Conducting observations, keep records and
    ensure their safe custody
  • In charge of managing and accounting for
    allocated resources
  • Adhering to professional code of conduct and
    ethics
  • Prepare and submit daily ward reports and
    handover to in-coming shift
Key Performance Indicators: 
  • Quality midwifery services to patients
    provided
  • High risk cases identified and reported
  • Ward/health unit activities organised and
    managed
  • Daily ward reports written and submitted
  • Accounting for financial and other resources
    provided
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicants must be enrolled midwives with
    certificates or equivalent from a recognised institution
  • The applicants must also be registered with
    the Nurses and Midwives Council
