Job Summary: The Ferry Master will give command to the Ferry
in accordance with the Maritime Regulations and he/she is responsible for
supervising the day to day operations of

ferry route schedule to ensure that the planned routes are implemented,
maintaining the ferry and ensuring safety of equipment, passengers and transit
traffic.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures safe loading and navigation of the
Ferry; - Manage ferry operations in line with
departmental guidelines and standards; - Draws up and regularly updates crew rosters,
including timely provision for leave, sickness and other absences. - Conducts early morning checks of the ferry
condition, ensures it carries adequate fuel and other consumables, that
all safety facilities, such as lifejackets, are in place and serviceable
and certifies in the logbook that the vessel is fit for service; - Ensures the daily, weekly and monthly
servicing of the vessel(s). - Ensures the timely provision of stocks of fuel
and other consumables/inputs, authorizes and controls their issues, and
accounts for the resources; - Ensures that crew are fit for duty, wearing
the appropriate uniform and maintains strict discipline at all times. - Maintains the Daily Movement Log;
- Ensures passenger-cargo manifests are
completed by all ferry users and that all cargo is declared prior to
boarding the Ferry; - Ensures the maintenance, cleanliness and
tidiness of all landing site facilities. - Communicates with the public and other
stakeholders on issues relating to the ferry service and ensures that
Safety messages are passed over to the passengers. - Responsible of the monitoring of
occupational, health and safety procedures in line with departmental
standards and guidelines - Prepares appropriate reports as required from
time to time - Perform any other duties as assigned by the Ferry
Engineer
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the UNRA Ferry Master job
vacancy should hold a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or
Marine/Nautical Science or any other related qualification - Relevant Industrial Training Experience while
at the University is a must; - Working experience will be an added advantage;
- Computer literacy skills
- High levels of integrity;
- Ability to work as part of a team and to
develop subordinates; - Excellent interpersonal, particularly
staff/management relation skills - Excellent oral and written communication
skills; - Ability to manage/supervise multi skilled
teams and deliver accurate results in a timely manner and in an
environment with multiple and challenging tasks.
