Prevention (CDC)/PEPFAR to implement a comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in the
mid-western Uganda Districts of Kiboga, Kibaale, Kyankwanzi, Hoima, Masindi,
Buliisa and Kiryandongo. The project is called “Accelerating Comprehensive
HIV/AIDS Service Delivery through Health System Capacity Building and Technical
Assistance of District Health Teams and Health Facilities in Western and West
Nile Regions in the Republic of Uganda under PEPFAR.”

Job Summary: The Pharmacy, Field Team Lead will support the
development of sustainable, appropriate, good quality pharmacy services within
the West Nile region and contribute to the strategic development of support to
the strengthening of pharmacy services by IDI.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- In charge of supporting health workers in
health facilities in their dispensing and storage management duties;
supporting on-site training, and assisting in the development of better
pharmacy practices and systems (especially drug storage, distribution and
tracking systems) at the clinics; - Supporting districts to develop district
pharmacy systems; - Carrying out overall supervision of the
logistics system for the projects; and spearheading the planning and
forecasting for the ART, basic care, laboratory and other medical supplies
Identify and support; strategic interventions in strengthening the process
of Supply Chain Management of MOH supplies; - In charge of identifying the roles of the different
stakeholders in the process of medicines management in the health
facilities; - Defining and strengthening the process of
tracking and accountability for all pharmaceutical products and related
supplies used by the projects; - Responsible for standardizing the quality
assurance requirement and procedures for Pharmaceutical products and
related supplies used by the projects; - In charge of strengthening of
pharmacovigilance and adherence issues in the projects; - Making specifications and quantifications of
project pharmaceutical supplies to be procured and distributed; - In charge of coordinating technical aspects
related to the projects training targets (including development of a
training plan to achieve training targets); - Supporting proposal development related to
outreach programme; - Perform any other duties as assigned by the
Pharmacy Logistics Specialist (Outreach)
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the Infectious Diseases
Institute (IDI) Pharmacy Field Team Lead should hold a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy; - A post graduate diploma in project planning
and management will be an added advantage. - Prior experience related to working with the
district health systems and MoH; - A minimum of two years’ experience in the
HIV/AIDS clinical setting; - Broad working knowledge of pharmaceutical
principles, practices, equipment and supplies; - Working knowledge of Ugandan law regulating
pharmacology and the use of controlled substances; - Working knowledge of proper record keeping
practices when managing ARV’s and related supplies; - Proven ability to understand prescriber’s
oral or written prescription orders involving standard symbols and
terminology; - Previous exposure and experience in analysis
and reporting of data for programme decision-making; and - Good report / proposal writing and
presentation skills. - Fluency of the local languages within the
supported districts is desirable.
