About USAID CHC Project:
Communication
for Healthy Communities (CHC) is a five- year program implemented through a
cooperative agreement between the United States Agency for International
Development USAID/Uganda) and FHI 360. The program supports the Government of
Uganda (GOU) and US government (USG) implementing partners to design and
implement quality health communication interventions to contribute to reduction
in HIV infections, total fertility, maternal and child mortality, malnutrition,
malaria & tuberculosis. CHC is implementing HIV prevention interventions
under the Determined Resilient Empowered AIDS-Free Mentored Safe (DREAMS)
initiative. DREAMS will target Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) in the
10 intervention districts: Gulu, Oyam, Lira, Mubende, Mityana, Gomba, Mukono,
Bukomansibi, Rakai and Ssembabule. The project will work with GoU and USG
service delivery partners to empower AGYW with the right knowledge, motivation,
skills, address negative social and gender norms around HIV and pregnancy
prevention, and motivate AGYW to seek and utilize available health services.
The goal of the project is to reduce HIV incidence by 25% in Year 1 and 40% in

Job Summary: The Project Coordinator will directly support the
Chief of Party and Senior Technical Advisor to coordinate, plan, and implement
project activities in the select 10 districts. The incumbent will work closely
with partners to facilitate the adaptation of health communication materials,
tools and guides; and provide technical assistance to partners in the
day-to-day implementation of DREAMS project health communication interventions.

tools and guides; and provide technical assistance to partners in the
day-to-day implementation of DREAMS project health communication interventions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with DREAMS implementing
partners in select districts to plan and organise participatory research
to understand behavioural barriers and drivers of HIV among AGYW so as to
tailor interventions to suit the audience - Work in liaison with implementing partners,
AGYW friendly champions such as peers and influencers (parents, religious
leaders), and CHC regional teams to plan and organise interpersonal
communication (IPC) interventions in the communities - Oversee the development and testing health
communication materials, tools and guides to support HIV prevention and
contraceptive choices as well as HIV care and treatment among AGYW and
malj) partners in the sexual network in the 10 intervention districts. - Offer technical support to implementing
partners in adapting the “Stepping Stones” methodology to DREAMS project
interventions and develop/adapt communication materials and tools to
support its rollout. - Based on findings from the participatory
research, identify at least one relevant intervention that will be piloted
as “proof of concept” to contribute to the learning agenda/ knowledge
base of the DREAMS project goal. - Work with implementing partners, districts
and CHC regional teams to disseminate DREAMS specific campaign materials
to key partners, health centres and other youth spaces in intervention
districts. - Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and
annual reports as well as monthly success stories on key project
interventions. - Address specific reporting requirements for
PEPFAR/USAID and represent CHC in local and international DREAMS project
fora as and when required. - Mentor and supervise the DREAMS northern and
central region communication officers. - Perform any other duties as advised by the
Senior Management Team.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the USAID FHI360 Project
Coordinator career should hold a Master’s degree in one of the following
areas; health communication, public health, social sciences or counseling
with a minimum of five years’ experience or bachelor’s degree in the above
fields with minimum of seven years’ experience. - Significant exposure and experience in
designing, implementing and evaluating health communication programs - Technical knowledge of HIV/AIDS programming
in Uganda. - Demonstrated ability to write and produce
high quality documents, reports and presentations - Previous exposure and experience working with
USAID funded projects; working with different partners, service providers,
districts and community based organizations - Experience or passion for adolescent and
young women’s sexual reproductive health issues, including vulnerable
groups such as female sex workers and other KPs is an added advantage. - Proven ability to work independently and
manage a high volume work flow.
