Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization
which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists.
The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong
emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI
has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission:
Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services
(provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins
University Core Lab) and Outreach.
About CDC Project:
Infectious
Diseases Institute (IDI) received funding from Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC)/PEPFAR to implement a comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in the
mid-western Uganda Districts of Kiboga, Kibaale, Kyankwanzi, Hoima, Masindi,
Buliisa and Kiryandongo. The project is called “Accelerating Comprehensive
HIV/AIDS Service Delivery through Health System Capacity Building and Technical
Assistance of District Health Teams and Health Facilities in Western and West
Nile Regions in the Republic of Uganda under PEPFAR.”
Job Summary: The Medical Clinical Officer will offer technical
support to health care workers at supported HFs; and assessment, diagnosis
& clinical care to all patients.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Provide technical assistance and mentorship
    for health workers in HIV/AIDS care especially in TB/HIV areas;
  • Provide continuous clinical mentoring in all
    areas including reporting for all related MoH reports;
  • Support HMIS and program reporting for all
    supported facilities; and
  • Offer support and participate in a continuous
    medical education (CME) programs for all staff support coordination of
    health education talks in HIV/AIDS related fields;
  • Oversee and strengthen quality improvement
    activities in all HIV/AIDS related fields at all facilities;
  • Provide support referral and linkages for
    clients receiving care at supported facilities;
  • Perform any other duties as may reasonably be
    assigned from time to time by the Team Leader-Technical Supervisory Teams.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the Infectious Diseases
    Institute (IDI) Medical Clinical Officer vacancy should preferably hold a Diploma
    in medicine
  • Additional training in clinical management of
    HIV/AIDS and opportunistic infections
  • Valid registration with the Allied Health
    professionals’ Council
  • One year of experience in a busy clinical
    HIV/AIDS setting;
  • Previous exposure and experience in clinical
    care of infants, children and adolescents would be an advantage;
  • Specific experience and training in TB
    management or care;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact productively
    and work in a team environment;
  • Self-motivated, innovative and capable of
    meeting deadlines;
  • Excellent communication skills required (both
    oral & written);
  • Willingness to travel and provide care
    services at selected health facilities and outreaches;
  • Fluency of the local languages within the
    supported districts is desirable.
  • Willingness to work and live in rural areas
    is required.
