Job Summary: The Senior Officer, Livelihoods – Emergency plays
a focal role in forming and strengthening young farmers groups’ knowledge,
skills and practices in agribusiness using Participatory Agricultural
Enterprise/Enabling Rural Innovations approach. The incumbent will be responsible
for linking youth to actors in agricultural value chains: inputs, production,
processing, marketing and transportation of agricultural products. The
jobholder will also liaise with District Production Offices and Local Partners
to offer both agronomic extension services and market opportunities for young
farmers. The incumbent will get involved in supporting the formation and
development of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) for youth groups
and promoting linkages with microcredit institutions for more comprehensive
Business Development Services (BDS), including support to access business and
agro value chain loan services. In addition, the persons builds capacity of
resource persons -Community Based Trainers (CBTs) to train and offer technical
assistance to the VSLA groups on VSLA methodology, savings and loan management
and coaching and mentoring. The jobholder also
supports youth led market assessment to identify opportunities, develop
business plans and support the implementation of the youth business plans.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Save the Children
Senior Officer, Livelihoods – Emergency job vacancy should hold a bachelor’s
degree or higher in Agriculture, Business Development studies or other
relevant discipline. A Postgraduate training/Advanced degree in the
related field, Social sciences/social works, or Management is an added
advantage. - Past exposure and experience in livelihood
and youth programming is preferred. - At least three years of relevant working
experience in a similar position in an NGO. Experience working with agricultural
and livelihoods programs especially in Value Chain Development and Rural
Financial Methodologies including Village Savings and Loan Associations - Past exposure and experience of working with
local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights Governance,
Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is an added
advantage. - Excellent analytical skills and strategic
planning abilities. - Ability to establish and maintain conducive
collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team. - Computer literacy and excellent documentation
skills are a must. - Willingness to travel and work in
hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions. - Availability and willingness to work extra
hours during times of humanitarian responses. - Highly developed cultural awareness and
ability to work well in an international environment with people from
diverse backgrounds and cultures. - Ability to intervene with crisis management
or troubleshooting as necessary. - Exceptional interpersonal and communication
skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching. - Excellent time management and planning
capacity. - Availability and willingness to work extra
hours during times of humanitarian responses. - Proven ability to speak local language and directly
interact with target group will be an added advantage
