non-value adding activities. UCF works to better protect Uganda’s National
Parks and their unique biodiversity for the benefit of wildlife, local
communities, the global community and future generations. UCF works closely
with Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) to identify specific needs for step
changes, designing targeted projects, identifying funding gaps and raising
funds to address these needs. Its work is highly valued by its main
beneficiaries – local communities and UWA.
Job Summary: The Project Officer (WesternUganda) will be
responsible for pursuing our organisation’s mission and vision by delivering
project outputs. The jobholder will be in charge of promoting sustainable
livelihoods in park-adjacent communities and introducing interventions designed
to mitigate human wildlife conflict.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Provide detailed work plans and budgets for
    project execution and delivery in line with project outputs
  • The incumbent will manage and execute the
    steps involved and complete a monthly project report, to be verified with
    the Projects Co-ordinator and Finance Officer before submission to the GM
    and Project Lead
  • In charge of collecting data via household
    surveys and participant interviews, and submit to office in a regular and
    timely fashion for analysis
  • Work closely with key personnel internally at
    UCF and at partner organisations and other stakeholders, updating all on
    key steps, convening (and minuting) meetings as required, and generally
    optimising collaboration on output delivery
  • Organise and facilitate community workshops
    on specific conservation topics, trainings, or participant recruitment
  • Manage procurement processes with contractors
    and partners
  • Perform any other relevant duties as assigned
    by the Programme Co-ordinator
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Project Officer
    job opportunity should hold an undergraduate degree in Forestry,
    Environmental or Geographical Science, Community Development or any other
    relevant subject, from a recognized University
  • The applicant should be highly organised,
    motivated and responsible person to help ensure the smooth and efficient
    delivery of our projects.
  • The jobholder should also be passionate about
    conservation because they will be instrumental in the execution of a major
    new community conservation & law enforcement project.
  • Computer literate skills with excellent
    understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Smartphone or tablet experience also
    required.
  • Possess strong numeracy skills, with good
    attention to detail
  • Proven ability to multi-task and manage
    priorities, meeting deadlines as required
  • Previous experience working with rural
    communities
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills;
    resourceful and responsible, with proven problem-solving abilities
  • The applicant should be a responsible
    self-starter, with a strong sense of integrity and commitment to meeting
    our organisational goals.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and
    professionally in both spoken and written English, spoken Lukonjo (written
    Lukonjo and Lukiga an additional advantage)
  • Possess a valid Uganda driving permit
    required
