Job Summary: The Senior
Project Engineer will be effectively managing the
construction of buildings and site staff to ensure that the company’s needs are met while saving costs but not compromising quality.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interpret
building plans and supervise the construction of the housing projects, as
per specifications and schedules. - In
charge of preparing work plans, materials schedules, activity schedules
and other relevant documentation in a timely manner, for proper planning
and execution of projects. - Supervise
and evaluate works of pieceworkers/sub – contractors. (this assumes
in-house projects) - Compile
and prepare monthly project progress reports, weekly project briefs and
cost capture reports. - Measure
and evaluate works done and prepare payment certificates. - Evaluate
the quality of materials supplied to project sites and manage their usage. - Ensure
a clean, safe and reliable work environment at project sites – with the
target of zero incidences and accidents. - Plan
for and manage the use of plant and equipment on sites to ensure that they
are available all the times. - Provide
the Company’s Management, whenever necessary, with relevant
specialist, expert and technical
advice (on the basis of appropriate and comprehensive analysis and
evaluation), with regard to the Company’s investment opportunities and
projects – especially those involving Partnerships, External Contractors
and other Service Providers – as well provide the necessary supervision,
quality assurance, facilitation and
coordination of the implementation of the corresponding projects – with a view
to ensuring their profitable success. - Mentor,
coach and develop staff under his/her supervision, through, inter alia,
professional training, coaching, delegation, appraisal and feedback. - Perform
any other duties as may be assigned from time to time, be directed by the
relevant authority.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The
ideal candidate should hold a Degree in Civil Engineering, or a closely
related and relevant discipline, from a recognized University. - Five
or more years’ experience as a Civil Engineer, Construction Engineer, or
in a similar position, in a large and reputable Construction, or Civil
Works Company, or reputable Consultancy firm, or on any other large civil
works project. - Full
and valid membership (Registered Engineer) of a nationally, or
internationally recognized professional Engineers’ Institute, or body,
such as MUIPE, is a must. - Specialized
training, with appropriate qualifications in Project Planning and
Management, from a recognized institution, are a must. - Additional
qualifications in Business Management, from a recognized institution, are
desirable. - Proven
working knowledge and skills in application of Engineering-related
Software and MS Office Packages (especially AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project,
Word, Excel and PowerPoint), are essential. - Proven
working experience in housing, or civil works project implementation, with
evidence of successful projects, is essential. - Past
experience in working with public, or private sector organizations
involved in housing-related projects, or programs, shall be an added
advantage. - Proven
negotiation and communication skills. - Results-oriented,
business-focused and pays attention to details. - Advanced
coordination and networking skills. - Cost
consciousness and proven ability to pursue value for money. - Good
project supervision skills. - Excellent
analytical, accuracy and judgmental skills. - Strong
IT and computer proficiency skills. - Proven
good presentation and reporting abilities. - Interpersonal
and human relations skills, as well as a team-player. - Maturity,
high ethics and integrity. - A
confident, independent, articulate and reliable personality. - Possess
the ability to work under tight deadlines, for long hours and to deliver
high quality outputs with minimal supervision.
