Job Summary: The Research Assistant will be committed to our
customer and will be responsible for both quantitative and qualitative support.
The jobholder will help in designing both quantitative individual and household
surveys, qualitative surveys as well as school surveys. Most importantly, you will be based out in
the field for approximately 80% of your working time conducting the different
types of interviews as well as working hands-on with families living below the
international poverty line of $2 a day. Travelling throughout Uganda will be
required while spending a lot of time outside the comfort of your home.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Carry out household interviews in slum
communities - Carry out plot specific and other one on one
field based research - Conduct follow up with our parents and other
operational research either in the field or through phone interviews - Conduct field-based exercises to calculate
population density using electronic data collection devices - Consolidate qualitative surveys transcripts
and run thematic analysis - Prepare and submit research reports based on
both quantitative and qualitative observations - Actively participate in the design of new
research studies and research tools
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should hold a Bachelor’s degree
in Sociology, Demography, Anthropology or other related field - A minimum of two years’ experience in
conducting field research - Working knowledge and experience working in
slums and informal settlements - Working knowledge and experience using Excel
for data entry - Knowledge and experience in statistical
analysis of research data - Very good at interpreting and using maps, and
connecting what you see on a map with the realities when on the ground - Working knowledge and experience in use of
PDA or net books for data - Excellent writing and verbal communication
skills - Good planning and organizational skills
- Ability to work under minimal to no
supervision - Attention to detail
- Excellent analytical skills
