Job Summary:  The Project
Coordinator, Saving New Born Lives works in close collaboration with the SNL
manager to support the implementation of the Saving Newborn Lives Project. The incumbent
will be responsible for coordinating and ensuring effective delivery of project
tasks as agreed with the manager including work plan and activity development;
implementation and report writing. As a member of the team, and in line with
project strategy of catalyzing effective coverage of high impact interventions
at scale; the project Coordinator also responsible for contributing to the
development of newborn health concept notes and proposals for fundraising
purposes; development of innovative technical tools and materials needed to
support quality implementation of newborn health programs within the country
office and within partner programs at the national level and at Sub-National
level, including Hoima region. In addition, the jobholder also supports the
technical trainings conducted as part of capacity building for country office
and partner staff. The position holder may also be called upon as and when
necessary to provide support in humanitarian responses.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Save the Children
    Project Coordinator, Saving New Born Lives job opportunity should hold a bachelor’s
    degree or higher in Nursing/Midwifery /Clinical Medicine. A Post graduate
    qualification in Public Health, project planning and management is of an
    added advantage;
  • A minimum of five years of related work
    experience in health/public health and or in a health/public health
    organization, including two years of experience as a national level
    technical assistance provider in the area of RH/MNCH with Government of
    Uganda or an International NGO;
  • Previous experience in designing,
    implementing and evaluating programs to improve maternal, newborn and
    child health and survival;
  • Prior experience in providing institutional
    support and technical assistance to decentralized governance systems and
    or NGOs on issues related to RH/MNCH programming and service delivery;
  • Previous experience in RH/MNCH programming
    including facility and community based health service improvement is
    essential.
  • Past exposure and experience of working with
    local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights Governance,
    Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is an added
    advantage.
  • Excellent analytical skills and strategic
    planning abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain conducive
    collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Computer literacy and excellent documentation
    skills are a must.
  • Willingness to travel and work in
    hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra
    hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and
    ability to work well in an international environment with people from
    diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to intervene with crisis management
    or troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication
    skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Excellent time management and planning
    capacity.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra
    hours during times of humanitarian responses.
