Job Summary: The Sexual and Gender Based Violence Officer provides
the across range of gender and sexuality related psychosocial intervention to
clients directly and indirectly.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Direct Client Support:
- As a direct client’s support service
provider, the SGBV Officer will carry out routine provision of
psychosocial support, counseling, referrals and advice clients on sexual
and gender related cases to Refugee clients; - Carry out field visits and follow up with
clients in the different refugee settlement across the country; - Support in management of the SGBV/P emergency
medical fund and coordinate the emergency medical referral to approved
medical service providers and the home based medical care scheme for the
sexual minority client’s; - The incumbent will coordinate the HIV/AIDS
and SRHR issues and provide the client with referral for medical attention
as necessary; - Offer technical support to sexual and gender
based support groups; - Plan, develop and implement client care and
communication strategies including establishing close working ties with relevant
partner organisations; - Support the legal team, as necessary, in
provision legal representation to refugee clients on sexual and gender
related cases.
2. Stakeholder Capacity

- As a change enabler, the SGBV Officer will facilitate
in trainings, workshops, conferences and seminars on gender and sexuality
aspects, as well as other trainings and information sessions organised by
RLP and for RLP; - Actively participate in coordinating annual
events related to Gender and sexuality; - Take part in the planning and provision of
training activities on SGBV Issues.
3. Research:
- The SGBV will, independently and/or as part
of a team undertake Gender and sexuality related social research with the
bid to publish findings on sexual and gender related issues among refugees
and forced migrants in general; - Participate in data collection processes and
activities through interviews and focus group discussions or using any
other adopted data selection technique; and identify and prepare research
training materials, tools as necessary for the execution of specific
research project.
4. Networking and
Advocacy:

- The SGBVO will, as necessary, represent the
organization at different fora that address gender and other cross cutting
issues such as HIV/AIDS and SRHR issues and participate in Advocacy on
gender issues; - Advocate for the streamlining of gender and
sexuality issues such as sexual minorities and sex workers/survival sex
worker issues in refugee protection and assistance programmes;
5. Fundraising:
- In enabling sustainability, the SGBVO will
support in fundraising activities, including, identifying potential
funders, development of fundraising concepts, funding proposals as
necessary; - Design, manage and grow a database of
potential trusts, foundations and grant giving bodies.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the Refugee Law Project
(RLP) Sexual and Gender Based Violence Officer career placement should
hold a Degree in social work, Psychology - Significant experience of empirical research,
data analysis, and evidence based reports and evidence based reports - The applicant must have worked with an NGO or
can understand the way NGO’s operate - Practical and theoretical understanding of
Sexuality, Gender based Violence - Excellent networking and communication
skills; - Good computer skills (standard office and
powerpoint software) are necessary; - Amicable interpersonal appearance and
behavior; - Proactive and Self driven;
- Ability to work under pressure;
- Good team player;
- Organised Personality;
- Result oriented;
- Quick at implementing plans;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Strong typing and computer application
skills; - Excellent analytical skills;
- Self-motivation and ability to motivate
others; - High level of Integrity.
