About Us:
The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit
organization which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health
specialists. The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems
with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity
Development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve
its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory
services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John
Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach.
About CDC / PEPFAR Project:
With funding from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC)/PEPFAR, IDI is implementing comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in 7
districts of mid-western Uganda Districts and 8 West Nile districts under the
project: “Accelerating Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Service Delivery through Health
System Capacity Building and Technical Assistance of District Health Teams and
Health Facilities in Western and West Nile Regions in the Republic of Uganda
under PEPFAR.”
Job Summary: The Medical
Clinical Officer will offer technical support to health care workers at
supported HFs; and assessment, diagnosis & clinical care to all patients
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Provide technical assistance and
    mentorship for health workers in HIV/AIDS care especially in TB/HIV areas
  • Offer continuous clinical mentoring in all
    areas including reporting for all related MoH reports
  • Support and participate in a Continuous
    Medical Education (CME) programs for all staff
  • Support coordination of health education
    talks in HIV/AIDS related fields
  • Take lead an strengthen quality
    improvement activities in all HIV/AIDS related fields at all
    facilities 
  • Support referral and linkages for clients
    receiving care at supported facilities 
  • Support HMIS and program reporting for all
    supported facilities
  • Perform any other duties as may reasonably
    be assigned from time to time
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The applicant must hold a Diploma in Medicine
  • Additional training in clinical management
    of HIV/AIDS and opportunistic infections Registration with the Allied
    Health professionals’ Council
  • One year of work experience in a busy
    clinical HIV/AIDS setting
  • Previous experience in clinical care of
    infants, children and adolescents would be an advantage
  • Specific experience and training in TB
    management or care
  • Good interpersonal skills required
  • Ability to interact productively and work
    in a team environment
  • Highly self-motivated, innovative and
    capable of meeting deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills required
    (Both oral & written)        
  • Willingness to travel and provide care
    services at selected health facilities and outreaches 
  • Willingness to work and live in rural
    areas is required
