About USAID MAPD Program:
The Malaria Action Program for Districts (MAPD) is a five-year project
funded by U.S Agency for International Development (USAID)/PMI. The project
aims to prevent and control Malaria illnesses and deaths in order to minimize
the social economic effects of the disease among the overall population of
Uganda especially in children under-5 years of age.
Job Summary: The Gender and
Adolescent Officer will work with the project manager to plan, and ensure
quality and timely implementation of project activities within the project
districts. The incumbent will work with other technical officers to mobilize
communities for project activities. The gender and adolescent officer will in
particular oversee the implementation of adolescent focused activities and
ensure that gender issues are integrated into all project activities.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
·        
Steer the planning and implementation of gender
and adolescent specific activities of the project. In particular, provide
support in the formulation of project documents and templates including the
project work plan and activity checklists.
·        
Advise on gender and youth-related policy and
implementation issues.
·        
Work closely with key project personnel to
ensure timely and efficient implementation of project activities.
·        
Support all technical and project implementation
staff to ensure that gender issues are mainstreamed in all project activities
and community engagements.
·        
Lead on the mobilization of adolescents to
meaningfully participate in project activities.
·        
Support monitoring and evaluation of project
activities and assist in the preparation and formulation of periodic project
progress reports on achieved milestones.
·        
Identify, document and disseminate lessons
learned and best practices related to gender and adolescent activities.
·        
Ensure the timely submission of gender and
adolescent components of the various project reports.
·        
Work closely with the communications specialist
to design communication collateral and materials that are gender sensitive and
able to appeal to younger audiences.
·        
Build and maintain good working relationship
with partner agencies involved in and supporting gender and adolescent programs.
·        
Actively participate in technical meetings and
provide communication advisory to the project team and any other relevant
activities as assigned by the project manager.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
·        
The applicant for the Jhpiego Gender and
Adolescent Officer should hold a Bachelor’s degree in social or health
sciences, public health, or related social sciences field is preferred.
·        
At least three years’ experience managing and
implementing gender and adolescent sexual and reproductive health programs.
·        
Broad knowledge and interest in gender, and
adolescent sexual and reproductive health programming.
·        
Proven skills in interpersonal, oral and written
communication.
·        
Foundation knowledge of the public health
situation in Uganda
·        
Excellent planning and project organization
skills.
·        
Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Publisher, Adobe Design Software or any other design software.)
·        
Understanding of adolescent health programming
including national and international policies and guidelines.
·        
Proficiency in English and ability to speak at
least one local language of the target districts
·        
Experience in implementing behavior change
programs targeting adolescents
·        
An understanding of international and national
gender mainstreaming guidelines
