Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
National Fellowship Eligibility Requirements
- Must be
currently living in Mpigi and able to travel to the local YCI
office - Ability
to commit to full 4-month placement at 15-20 hours/week during office
hours - Professional
level English skills (written and verbal) - Currently
enrolled in or graduated from a relevant post-secondary degree or diploma
(or the equivalent work experience) - Demonstrated
interest in the fields of international cooperation, gender equality
and/or social entrepreneurship - Proficiency
in standard software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Desired Qualifications for this Position
- Demonstrate strong writing and
editing skills and high attention to detail - Previous experience in digital
content creation, developing a podcast, and/or managing business social
media will be considered a strong asset - Proficiency with Adobe Creative
Suite and video and audio editing software is strongly preferred - Some technical research skills
will be considered an asset (i.e. conducting research for reports and/or
presentations) - Strong
organization and time management skills - Strong
teamwork, leadership and problem-solving skills - Demonstrate
ability to be proactive, flexible and take initiative - Demonstrate
ability to interact with individuals of different cultural - backgrounds
and beliefs, including openness to differing opinions and views - Previous experience working
with international organizations will be considered an asset
Note: You will be asked to submit a sample of
creative work you have completed in the past (i.e. graphics, videos, social
media campaign, blogs/writing samples and/or podcast developed).
Summary
Join a
creative communications team to support telling young women’s stories as
leaders in social innovation and the unique approach and impact of HerStart’s
Innovate the Future program. Inspire and engage the public to take action on
these critical areas, including gender equality, climate change and social
entrepreneurship through various communications channels, including social
media, digital content, and podcasts. This is an opportunity to strengthen your
CV with practical international development research, digital media and
communications experience with an international organization. In the process,
learn about women’s empowerment, climate action and social entrepreneurship –
pivotal frameworks that are shaping the future of work, social impact and
gender equality globally.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Produce engaging materials to
communicate success stories and program engagement opportunities to the
public, including through social media, blog and web content and the
development of the HerStory podcast series - Lead photography and
videography for the program in country, building and organize
program photos, videos and communications resources library - Contribute to the design and
implementation of marketing and outreach strategies and materials,
primarily targeting young women - Conduct secondary research on
topics such as women’s empowerment, green business and social
entrepreneurship to inform creative content development - Support the development of
podcasting ‘how-to’ guides and training sessions for staff, partners and
future HerStart Fellows - Collaborate with research team
to collect the required program data, interviews and quotes for
communications needs - Contribute
to the drafting, editing and design of program reports, guides,
presentations, fact sheets and infographics, as needed - Support media outreach
activities including press releases, key messaging, radio interviews,
events, etc. - Support the design and
implementation of HerStart communications strategies and work plans;
provide strategic communications support to partners, as needed - Conduct digital campaign and
communications needs assessments for the program and partner organizations
to identify gaps and opportunities for growth - Organize
and engage in creative, knowledge sharing and skill building activities
and resources, which contribute to the Community of Practice and overall
culture of learning

Daily Stipend:
A stipend will be received by National Fellows to cover the costs of
transportation and lunch for days worked in office.
