Job Summary: The Communication
and Advocacy Officer is tasked with implementing activities to promote research
uptake by various stakeholders to inform refugee focused programs and policies.
The incumbent will also lead efforts to develop and implement Windle Trust
Uganda communication and advocacy strategy.

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- The
incumbent will develop and implement the Windle Trust communications and
advocacy strategy: - The
jobholder will advocate with government officials, multilateral and
bilateral donors, civil society and private sector to use research
evidence to inform programs and policies. - Take
lead of efforts to draft press release, organize press conferences and
manage dissemination events. - Work
closely with the media house to broadcast, publish and disseminate
research findings. - Design
and implement the Windle Trust publications strategy and plan: - Maintain
media and press contacts and serve as public information focal
point: - Identify
and develop storylines for publications and substantive articles for local
media, contribute to debates on key development issues; - The
incumbent will also coordinate and manage all Windle Trust
publication activities, including content management, - Prepare
content for the web sites and social media and work with the Information
Technology Specialist to regularly update content on the website - Develop
and maintain regular media contacts and provide newsworthy information to
the public; - Mobilize
the multi-media house to effectively disseminate research findings through
print and electronic media. - Provide
input into the Windle Trust quarterly and annual progress reports
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The
ideal candidate for the Windle Trust Uganda Communication and
Advocacy Officer job vacancy must possess a good Bachelor’s degree in communications, media relations, journalism,
public relations, business development, international development, or
other related humanities or social sciences degrees. - Additional
training in media relations, photography or creative writing is an asset - A minimum of three years’ relevant experience in public relations, communications,
advocacy, campaign; - Previous
working experience with child-centered organizations is an added advantage - Extensive
knowledge and experience working to promote Refugee’s rights. - Computer
skills in office software packages including power point, publisher, Adobe
CS, or other publication design software, good knowledge and experience
in web-based management systems, including social media platforms; - Previous
exposure and experience in public speaking and/or event management is an
asset. - Ability
to develop and manage media campaigns; - Excellent
communication skills (oral and written); - Proven
advocacy skills, and ability to generate interest in research uptake; - Strong
multi-tasking skills; - Good
networking skills with various stakeholders including government, donors,
media house, CSO and including senior management; - Ability
to build and maintain productive relationships with partners; - Proven
ability to meet tight deadlines.
