to equip refugees and others affected by conflict in Africa to meet the challenges
of development through providing access to education, training, and employment
opportunities by advocacy and direct programme activity. Windle Trust Uganda
has been a leading provider of access to university education, post-primary
education, and vocational training for conflict-affected Africans since 1996.
WTU works in partnership with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
(UNHCR).
Job Summary: The Project
Accountant will be responsible for Grant Management, ensuring that donor funds
is properly identified, utilized, recorded and reported.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Financial
    Roles; Maintain procedures for fund requisitions and accountability
    procedures for WTU. Maintain a book-keeping system for WTU which includes
    a cashbook, general ledger and bank reconciliation; ensuring that
    transactions are recorded daily either into QuickBooks accounting system
    or spread sheets.
  • Administration/Assets
    Management; Ensure fixed asset registers/schedules are maintained and
    updated regularly.
  • Utilize
    institutional and programme funds according to approved work plans.
  • Make
    sure that proper accounting records are maintained regarding the
    management and transactions of WTU and account for funds accurately at
    each level of project implementation and institutional activities.
  • Ensure
    staff advances and Travel floats are issued strictly within Windle
    Trust Uganda guidelines, all recoveries in respect of advances and Floats
    owed by staff members to Windle Trust Uganda are appropriately recovered
    from salaries on specified dates.
  • Ensure
    float register is maintained and reconciled monthly and that floats,
    salary advances due are forwarded to Windle Trust Uganda Finance Manager.
  • The
    incumbent will ensure that proper coding of all programme expenses are
    done in the books of accounts and on all the accounting documents.
  • In
    charge of the preparation of weekly requisitions in regard to field
    work plans. Assist in the preparation of monthly payrolls.
  • Bring
    to the attention of management of Windle Trust Uganda any matters, which
    may require action/decision that may improve the financial management
    arrangements of WTU
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate for the Windle Trust Uganda Project Accountant job
    opportunity must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration,
    Accounting
  • A minimum of three years of proven
    experience in effective and efficient management of secondary education
    with high quality outputs.
  • Excellent
    planning, analytical, conceptual and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated
    ability to motivate staff and students to perform maximally and a good
    team-player.
  • Computer
    literacy i.e. Mastery of office software (MS Word, Excel, and Power Point)
    required.
  • Able
    and willing to live, work, travel in fast-paced and difficult environment
    adhering to strict security guidelines.
  • Ability
    to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • High
    level of integrity, commitment and professional responsibility.
  • Ability
    to establish and maintain professional relationship with Teachers, parents,
    students and colleagues
  • Familiarity
    with procurement sources of educational materials like textbooks,
    laboratory equipment and other support materials.
  • Excellent
    interpersonal and team building skills, including the ability to work in a
    multi-cultural setting.
  • Excellent
    communication, organization and presentational skills demonstrated through
    Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability
    to tolerate cultural, educational and religious diversity in the work
    place and capacity to work under pressure.
  • Ability
    to work independently within guidelines and clear expectations.
  • Ability
    to work comfortably and efficiently with other staff learners/students and
    members of the communities within the Refugee settlements
