About GIZ EnDev:
Energising Development (EnDev) is a global multi-donor partnership
implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)
that facilitates access to modern energy services in 24 countries worldwide. In
Uganda, EnDev, under the Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
Programme (PREEEP) cooperates closely with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral
Development (MEMD). EnDev Uganda facilitates access to modern energy services
through market development with the private sector for improved cook stoves
(ICS) and solar PV products. In its ICS programme component, EnDev Uganda
supports Ugandan ICS companies to increase their production capacity, improve
their product and service quality as well as competitiveness and marketability.
Job Summary: The Senior
Business Developer will be responsible for the provision of business
development support to partner companies. The incumbent will assist the
supervisor in his management and technical tasks
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
Business Development Support:
  • In charge of analyzing the need for
    business development support of partner companies
  • Assessing ICS or solar companies regarding
    their potential for a partnership with EnDev Uganda
  • Responsible for the joint development of
    concepts, business plans and growth strategies with partner companies
  • In charge of developing training modules,
    materials and consultancy packages tailored to the specific needs of
    partner companies and their staff Implementing training measures and
    providing continuous coaching and on-the-job training employing management
    and decision-making tools
  • Further partner engagement through regular
    communication, meetings, training sessions and workshops, exposure visits,
    quality checks etc.
  • In charge of the preparation and
    management of consultancy contracts
Knowledge management and M&E
  • Updates the head of project and the
    project team regularly on the progress of ongoing and planned business
    development activities and about market trends in the ICS and solar sector
  • Assists in communication, compilation of
    up to date information on project activities as well as the documentation
    of lessons learnt and approaches
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The applicant should preferably hold a
    Master’s degree in business administration, business management,
    entrepreneurship, development studies or other related fields Relevant
    postgraduate qualifications are an added advantage
  • At least seven years of professional
    working experience in a similar position in the energy sector, including
    three years of active engagement with the private sector, ideally in a
    management position
  • Prior working experience with GIZ
    preferably or a similar organization is an added advantage
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the
    Ugandan ICS and solar sectors, market trends and the specific needs of
    Ugandan SMEs active in these sectors
  • Previous experience in working independently
    and harmoniously as part of a team
  • Proven experience in all areas of business
    development described above
  • Proven experience in the use of management
    and decision-making tools
  • Sufficient knowledge about ICS and solar
    technologies
  • Excellent target-group oriented
    communication skills, both orally and written
  • Outstanding presentation skills
  • Computer literacy with excellent knowledge
    of MS Office (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Willingness to continuous learning
  • Excellent English language skills.
  • Fluent Luganda skills are an added
    advantage
