Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWEU) is an international
non-governmental organisation which was launched in February 1997 as part of a
bigger network of 34 National Chapters across Africa with a primary aim of
addressing gender disparities in education that were manifested through low
rates of access to education, retention, performance and completion of girls
starting from upper primary school through secondary up to higher education
levels.

Job Summary: The Programme
Accountant will support the Finance and Administration Department in the
financial implementation of the MCF Programme with regard to cash management,
book keeping, financial records management, Data Management, Audit Process,
Process Accounting and all financial matters relating to the programme. The
incumbent will also support internal control management with the aim of
achieving the programme set objectives. The role will be performed in line with
the established FAWEU/MCF financial procedures and the Generally Accepted
Accounting Procedures (GAAP).

Responsibilities:

Financial Management, Accounting, Budget Control and Accountability:
- Financial implementation of the MCF
Programme towards ensuring value for money - Process payments and receipts for all
program activities - Record keeping of all financial
transactions of the MCF Programme - Ensure that all advanced funds are
accounted for in a timely manner as per the FAWEU guidelines and donor
requirements as well as timely retiring of all accountabilities into the
database for purposes of timely reporting - Carry out timely bank reconciliations for
the project and financial reporting as scheduled - Prepare timely financial reports to
funders as laid down in the reporting schedule - Participate in the preparation of annual
financial statements and external audits - Regularly monitor expenditures versus
budget and advise the Finance and Administration Manager appropriately
Program Support:
- Provide support in the implementation of
project activities in accordance with the established guidelines - Actively participate in the budgeting
process - Actively participate in any field project
activities as may be required from time to time - Procurement, Administration and Human
Resource Activities - Support the Finance and Administration
Manager with the procurement function for MCF activities - Prepare and submit timely performance
plans and participate in the performance evaluations/appraisals as
scheduled - Adhere to all FAWEU Policies and
Procedures
Others: Perform any other duties that may be assigned to you by
your supervisor from time to time

Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The ideal candidate should preferably hold
a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting Option), Accounting, Business
Administration or other related field is essential - Practical advanced computer skills
(knowledge of quick books and other finance packages) is essential - Professional qualification in ACCA or CPA
will be of an added advantage - A minimum of three years’ experience in a
similar position with a reputable
NGO - Strong team player
- Demonstrated good customer care skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
skills - High standard of integrity, discretion and
loyalty - Dynamic, proactive, multi-tasker and
result oriented - Takes responsibility for the decisions
made and the behaviours demonstrated - Actively seeks out feedback on their
performance (both results and behaviours) with a view to continuous
learning and growing - Ability to understand organizational
programming - Self-driven and able to work under minimal
supervision
