Uganda, Currently, Save the Children has a staff complement of over 200
persons. We save children’s lives. We fight for their rights. We help them
fulfil their potential. In 2014, we reached over 143 million children through
our work around 52m directly and 91 million indirectly around the world.
Job Summary: The Program
Operations Manager assists the Director of Program Operations in the overall
responsibility for the direction and coordination of the Program Operations
Department. The POM deputises and supports in the planning, management,
compliance, implementation, reporting, budgeting, staff management and
mentorship for the effective, timely and quality implementation of Save the
Children’s programmes. The POM assumes responsibility of focal point for
security across all Save the Children’s operations. The POM leads the
development/revision and implementation of the organisation’s Disaster
Preparedness Plan (DPP). The POM may be delegated specific roles and
deliverables from time to time by the Director of Program Operations as may be
deemed necessary. Frequent field travel is required.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Save the
    Children International Program Operations Manager job placement should
    preferably hold a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in any relevant field. A
    Post Graduate training in Project Management, Community Development will
    be an added advantage with a Master’s degree in any relevant field.
  • A minimum of eight years of progressive
    experience in programme implementation with at least 5 of those years in a
    middle management position in an NGO.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of
    national poverty alleviation strategies as well as current national and
    international trends in to global poverty and development.
  • Specifically familiarity with child rights
    issues in the NGO world or work with a thorough knowledge of the quality
    programme development and the Child Protection Code of Conduct.
  • Strong financial, planning and budget
    management skills and experience.
  • Strategic management skills
  • Past exposure and experience of working
    with local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights
    Governance, Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is
    an added advantage.
  • Excellent analytical skills and strategic
    planning abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain
    conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a
    team.
  • Computer literacy and excellent
    documentation skills are a must.
  • Willingness to travel and work in
    hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra
    hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and
    ability to work well in an international environment with people from
    diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to intervene with crisis
    management or troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and
    communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Excellent time management and planning
    capacity.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra
    hours during times of humanitarian responses.
