organization which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health
specialists. The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems
with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity
Development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve
its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory
services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John
Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach.

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Tasked with the identification for the
need of laboratory Equipment and Furniture requirements; support the
projects in evaluation and identification of suitable laboratory
equipment. - Supervise and certify installation and
commissioning of laboratory equipment and furniture by external
contractors at the facilities. - Keenly monitor performance of laboratory
equipment and furniture - Plan and conduct electrical maintenance
and installation of electrical equipment/s in the facilities. - Plan, coordinate and carrying out repair
works for equipment in the facilities - Tasked with routine troubleshooting and
diagnosis of faults in the system and reporting to the facilities Engineer - In charge of monitoring the health of
facilities’ system including but not limited to Power systems, Generators,
Air- conditioning, and Refrigeration. - Conducting scheduled preventive
maintenance for the Equipment at the facilities. - Mentor and supervise a team of technicians
- Draft correspondences and prepare reports,
statistics, tables, charts, and other documents related to building and
equipment/systems maintenance activities including security strengthening
activities. Advise supervisor, on status of project works. - Coordinate with security and IT on
inspections related to CCTV surveillance equipment. - Develop an equipment and systems
monitor/plan to maintenance and carryout periodic electrical audits on
facilities.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Infectious
Diseases Institute (IDI) Facilities Engineer (Electrical) should
preferably hold an Honors degree in Bio-Medical Engineering / Mechanical
/Electrical engineering from a recognized University/Institution. - A minimum of four years of professional
experience in maintenance of laboratory equipment including installation
and commissioning of large equipment in a reputable organization with a
similar setting to Infectious Diseases Institute - Extensive knowledge in preparation of
specifications for laboratory equipment and furniture is desirable. - Broad knowledge and ability to assess,
specify, install and maintain solar infrastructure. - Comprehensive knowledge and ability to
diagnosis and repair cold-chain equipment and Air conditioners is highly
desirable - Excellent interpersonal, management skills
- A high degree of integrity
- Ability to work with complex teams
- Proven ability to work under pressure and
meet tight deadlines with minimum supervision
