Action Against Hunger (ACF) is an International Humanitarian NGO. For
over thirty years, ACF  has been
implementing Food Security and Livelihoods, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and
Hygiene programs in the Lango, Acholi, West Nile and Karamoja regions in
Uganda.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Provide technical support to all FSL
    projects i.e. intensive agriculture, Multistorey gardening, use of zai
    pits, fruit
  • Tasked with growing, general crop
    agriculture, Agro forestry and general farm level Soil & water
    conservation.
  • Actively promote concepts of agro ecology
    and climate smart agriculture.
  • Ensure active participation of the various
    categories of beneficiaries in project interventions.
  • Implement all the planned field based
    activities in respective areas of project implementation on planned time.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly individual work
    plans and submit to the supervisors.
  • Formulate training manuals per thematic
    area, and Participate in the training of beneficiaries per the project
    requirements.
  • Work in close liaison with the PM organise
    and supervise all project capacity development activities
  • Actively participate in beneficiary
    profiling, beneficiary registration, and base line-end line assessments in
    FSL activities.
  • Participate in all project review
    assessments, surveys and studies and ensure these are conducted per
    protocol.
  • Document and compile reports on project
    activities including Monthly & Quarterly donor reports
  • Support the establishment of a database
    for all project activities to regularly monitor and evaluate their
    activities.
  • Manage reporting on project progress,
    success stories and lessons learned during project implementation.
  • Conduct trend of food security and
    nutrition analyses of the refugee influx and host community and give
    recommendations on how Action Against Hunger can better position itself.
  • Ensure that staff/persons under your
    supervision (Community based facilitators, demo site leaders)
  • Ensure that staffs under your supervision
    develop quarterly activity workplans and adhere to them.
  • Identify training needs of staff under
    your supervision and suggest an appropriate training plan.
  • Work in liaison with relevant district
    departments (Production & Natural resources) and NARO to share
    relevant information.
  • Participate in internal and external
    meetings per the PM guidance
  • As delegated by the PM, respond to
    complaints and questions on related to FSL.
  • Actively participate in events organized
    in the refugee and host community setting.
  • Coordinate with other sections of Action
    Against Hunger and all other stakeholders in the response.
  • As delegated by the PM, attend interagency
    & sectoral coordination meetings at the settlements and District
    level.
  • Attend donor meetings and field visits as
    required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned from
    time to time
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Action Against
    Hunger (ACF) Soil and Water Conservation Officer job opportunity should
    preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree (honors) in Soil Science, Watershed
    Management, Water Engineering, Irrigation Engineering, General
    Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Extension, Agro Ecology, or any other
    relevant field with at least 3 yr continuous experience implementing soil
    & water conservation activities.
  • Additionally, A diploma in Agricultural
    related studies with at least 3 years’ practical experience in a
    successful soil & water conservation project shall be considered.
  • Previous work with a busy multi-sectoral
    setting/programming is an asset.
  • Previous work in a refugee setting is
    desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills (written
    and oral) in English
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and
    make decisions independently
  • Extremely flexible with the ability to
    cope with stressful situations
  • Excellent reporting skills with good oral
    and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the local language is an
    added advantage
  • Highly diplomatic and culturally sensitive
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
