About US:
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) is an
International Partnership that provides grants to lower income countries with
high HIV, Malaria and Tuberculosis disease burden. The Fund also supports
health service delivery through grants that are dedicated to health and
community systems strengthening. These resources are additional to and not a
replacement for financing to the health sector from recipient Governments.
Recipient Countries are required to demonstrate transparency, traceability,
attribution and efficient accountability of the resources.
Job Summary: The Accountant will
perform general accounting duties involving tracking accountability, vouching
for completeness, updating and maintaining books of accounts and, routine
financial statements and reports for the Global Fund grants. The Accountant will
be attached to the HSS and Malaria programmes respectively.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • The jobholder will examine correctness of
    payment requests, completeness of documentation and certify requisitions
    of global fund related activities for further processing.
  • The incumbent will verify that receipts
    match expenditure and undertake reconciliation of invoices and local
    purchase orders for goods and services procured from Global fund moneys
    before effecting payment.
  • Compile accountability returns, verify and
    retire advance ledgers.
  • Maintain primary financial records and
    update books of accounts for Global fund grants.
  • Compile and reconcile enhanced financial reports
    – Enhanced Financial Reports and price and quality reports- PQR
  • The jobholder will also prepare final
    accounts for audit for global fund grants
  • Prepare payments for global fund
    activities
  • Prepare periodic reconciliation of
    financial statements and carry out monthly cash book reconciliations to
    bank statements for global fund.
  • The incumbent will verify payroll change
    requests and reports to ensure correctness of computations, payments and
    deductions; certify and follow-up approval and payment to beneficiaries
    from Global fund grants
  • Performs any other duties as may be
    assigned by the Finance manager as and when required
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Global Fund
    Health Project Accountant job opportunity must hold an Honours Bachelor
    degree with a bias in Accounting or related field.
  • Full professional qualification in
    Accountancy like ACCA, CPA, CIMA is a MUST.
  • Membership of ICPAU or Accounting
    professional body is an added advantage.
  • At least three years’ experience in accounting
    or related discipline.
  • Knowledgeable in ICT
  • Previous experience in accounting of donor
    funded projects and public sector is desirable.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret financial
    information and Statements.
  • The person must be skilful and work with minimum
    supervision.
  • The person must be computer literate, able
    to review and interpret financial information and statement in the systems
  • Objective in conducting the audit
  • Good inter personal relations
  • Innovative and pro activeness
  • Good decision making and problem solving
    skills
  • Good intra- personal management
  • Demonstrate leadership skills.
