Job Summary: The Grants
Officer will assist the Finance Manager in managing the budgets and grants
reporting for VSO Uganda’s projects
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
Grant Management:
  • Support the education programme manager in
    all aspects of grant management for education programme portfolio.
  • Assist the finance manager in ensuring
    that donor requirements for all of VSO Uganda’s grants are adhered to.
Budget Management:
  • Support the finance manager in effectively
    managing budgets with respect to VSO Uganda
  • Prepare monthly programme and financial
    reports for the Education signature programme with variance analysis for
    review and discussion with the finance manager
  • Support the finance manager in the
    preparation of annual budget and Quarterly budget reforecasts.
  • Produce monthly budget-expenditure
    variance reports for the Education programme staff and provide support to
    the finance manager on proactively managing these variances.
  • Keenly monitor VSO Uganda VfD and ICS
    budget
Financial Management:
  • Ensure the relevant internal controls per
    the donor requirements are adhered to.
  • Actively participate in the delivery of
    relevant finance management trainings to programme staff and donor
    regulations.
  • Provide support during all audits.
  • Contribute and support the Finance Manager
    in the submission of future funding proposals.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by
    the Finance Manager
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should hold a
    Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related degree. 
  • A minimum of three years’ experience of
    financial planning, reporting and working in a multi-funded international
    development organisation with multiple foreign currencies Good technical
    accounting skills. 
  • Financial and Information Technology
    Systems
    – Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel particularly. Use
    of accounting software, SUN Accounts system preferred.
  • Communication and Influencing Skills–Good
    written and verbal communication skills – able to listen, present,
    discuss, report, put views forward, negotiate with confidence. 
  • Sensitivity to cultural and language
    differences, able to interact with people at all levels of the
    organisation. Able to work with others in a consultative way. Ability to
    withstand and resolve conflict. 
  • Effective negotiating professional
    solutions. 
  • Commitment to VSO’s work and values
  • Decision Making and Planning
    professional judgement and discernment. Capacity for inquiry, research,
    logical and analytical thinking, powers of reasoning and critical
    analysis. Experience of decision modelling.
  • Risk Management – Experience of
    identifying, analysing and mitigating financial risks.

    Able to prioritise within restricted resources to tight deadlines. Able to
    anticipate and adapt to change. Strong attention to detail.  Ability to work independently with
    minimal supervision. Self motivated to set initiatives and self learn.
