Hilfe e. V (AAH) and was registered in Munich, Germany from where our founders
in 2003 moved the organisation’s headquarters to Kenya. AAH-I now works with
refugees, host communities and other marginalized and vulnerable groups in
Kenya, Uganda, Somalia and South Sudan, where it operates across a range of
sectors that seek to bridge relief to development.
Job Summary: The Best Interest
Assessments & Determinations (BID/BIA) Assistant will conduct assessments
on children and other child protection related activities while ensuring
compliance with relevant child protection standards including child participation
in line with AAH and donor guidelines.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • The incumbent will identify children at
    heightened risk and effect appropriate intervention including alternative
    care arrangements, birth registration etc.;
  • Follow-up and monitor individual case
    status and progressively ensure compliance with the comprehensive child
    protection strategy;
  • Coordinate and carry out all best interest
    assessments and determinations (BIA and
  • BID) process in line with best child
    protection practice and defined donor and AAH guidelines;
  • The incumbent will ensure the
    implementation of decisions relating to refugee children made by the BID
    and
  • Psychosocial panels;
  • Maintain up-to-date individual case files,
    date and information relating to refugee child protection and
    progressively generate appropriate periodic reports on trends and activities
    in line with donor and AAH reporting guidelines;
  • Provide support to community child
    protection caseworkers in the tracking of individual cases, updating
    status, and updating child protection database;
  • work closely with and support partners in
    refugee child protection through activities such as capacity building, and
    inform and participate in relevant network and coordination forums;
  • Performs other duties as required by your
    supervisor.

  • Best
    interest assessments and determinations (BIA and BID) conducted.
  • Up-to-date
    individual case files, date and information relating to refugee
    child protection.
  • Periodic
    reports on trends and activities in line with donor and AAH reporting
    guidelines.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Best Interest
    Assessments & Determinations (BID/BIA) Assistant job opportunity
    should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences,
    Development Studies, Counselling and Guidance or any other relevant
    field.
  • Possession of a Certificate in Child protection will be of added advantage.
  • At least two years’ work experience, including at least 1 year conducting
    assessments on children, preferably with an NGO. Experience working
    in the field of refugee protection and assistance an added advantage
  • Broad knowledge of human rights doctrine, child rights and/or extensive
    field experience in working with refugees.
  • Proficiency
    in English and Swahili, Knowledge of French a plus
  • Computer
    literacy skills with proficiency in MS Office
  • Good
    knowledge of human rights doctrine, refugee law, child rights and
    protection;
  • Strong
    research, capacity building, analytical and report writing skills;
  • Good data handling skills and previous exposure to database a plus;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong
    organization skills
  • Ability
    to ride a motorcycle with a valid riders’ license will be an added
    advantage.
