Job Summary: The Field
Accountant will primarily provide regional support to accounting staff in JGI’s
4 field offices (Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Tanzania, and
Uganda). This individual works closely with finance officers and executive
directors in each country to ensure that monthly financial reporting
requirements are met and verify compliance with internal JGI guidance lines and
procedures as defined in the Institution’s Finance Manual. The accountant will
also make periodic assessments regarding the appropriateness of field-deployed
accounting software and proposes training for finance field staff based upon
assessments.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review all payroll detail for each country
on a monthly basis, check for local statutory compliance, and reconcile to
G/L accounts and payouts - Work closely with field accounting staff
to ensure that corporate and donor policies and procedure are adhered to
and standard accounting practices are utilized. - The incumbent will verify compliance with
donor requirements such as USAID, NSF, EU, UN and other global donors.
Maintain consistent contact with field accountants to provide timely
guidance, control data integrity to ensure and ensure that effective
financial controls are in place at all times in field offices. - Review month end files from each country
to ensure proper recording of transactions including grant allocations,
Chart of Accounts utilization, Balance Sheet reconciliations, cash
handling, budget compliance and cost share reporting. Track outstanding
issues and coordinate resolution. - Support field offices with preparation of
quarterly cash projections. - Review and forward monthly cash requests
from field offices for compliance with budget and work plans. Ensure
annual budgets have been entered in accounting software and monthly
“Budget vs. Actual” reports are promptly available for timely management. - Development of project or country specific
reports to assist with program and country management and reporting. - Facilitate financial close-out of
projects. - Offer support in the development of local
policies and procedures to meet global requirements. - Collaborate with US office to maintain
consistency of Chart of Accounts, Donor lists and Activity lists for all
field sites. - Work closely with US Finance office to
maintain the integrity of grant schedule for Africa Coordinate country
teams in developing management responses to audit reports, propose action
plans to remediate audit findings, and follow up to support implementation
and ensure compliance with US Finance manual - Assist with install and maintenance of
field accounting software as needed. - Participate in relevant working groups,
scheduled meetings-and team calls
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The applicants for this placement must be
ACCA certified or Certified Public Accountant - At least four years of related experience,
preferably with international non-profit organization - Previous experience and training with
applicable U.S. Federal government circulars (OMB Circulars A-110, A-122
and A-133). - Familiarity with following software:
Advanced Excel, QuickBooks. Experience with Navision helpful Work
Environment: - Languages: English fluency, spoken
French proficiency
