About US Embassy:
The United States Embassy in Kampala, Uganda has enjoyed diplomatic
relations with Uganda for over 30 years. 
Ambassador Deborah R. Malac currently heads the U.S Mission to
Uganda.  The Mission is composed of
several offices and organizations all working under the auspices of the Embassy
and at the direction of the Ambassador.
Among the offices operating under the U.S Mission to Uganda are:
  • United States Agency for International
    Development (USAID)
  • Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
  • Peace Corps
Job Summary: The Security
Coordinator is the Regional Security Office’s senior locally employed (LE)
staff in charge of the embassy’s defensive security portfolio, which includes
the embassy’s physical security program, the residential security program, the
local guard force (LGF), the surveillance detection unit (SD), and the security
receptionist team.  As head of the
defensive security portfolio, the DSC directly supervises four LE staff: the
Residential Security Coordinator (RSC), the LGF Coordinator (LGFC), the SD
Coordinator (SDC), and the Security Receptionist Supervisor.  In consultation with the supervising ARSO,
the DSC is responsible for resolving the defensive security portfolio’s
budgetary, procurement, and personnel issues directly with the relevant
management office.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:

  • The applicants for the United States US
    Embassy Security Coordinator job placement should hold a Bachelor’s Degree
    from a recognized university in the field of law, criminal justice,
    security, military science, engineering, or applied sciences.
  • A minimum of three years in police,
    military, or security position, two of which must be in a supervisory role
    OR a minimum of 2 years Diploma studies with 5 years of specialized
    experience two of which must be in a supervisory role in police, military
    or security position.
  • Good leadership skills. 
  • Previous experience with budgets and
    manpower control. 
  • Hold a clean and valid driver’s
    license. 
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Be trained to carry a firearm and other
    protective equipment, and be prepared to deal with an intruder or other
    criminal on the compound.  Typing
    skills with speed and accuracy is required.
  • A high-level working knowledge of the
    FAM/FAH, embassy procurement and contracting procedures, Diplomatic
    Security physical, procedural, and operational security standards and
    procedures, local laws, and local law enforcement tactics, procedures, and
    chains of command.
  • Knowledge in budgeting, planning a
    physical or residential security upgrade project (to include how to request
    additional funds at post, from DS, or from OBO), and carrying out that
    project.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of local
    working conditions and practices. 
  • Familiarity with a wide range of
    protective equipment.
  • Language: Level IV spoken and
    written English ability (Fluent) is required.   Level II in any of the following
    languages; Luganda, Runyakitara and Swahili .
