Job Summary: The
Project Officer – Agronomy will provide technical oversight in the
implementation of DINU on farm related interventions. S/he will oversee and
ensure that all activities related to the project are implemented in a timely
and efficient manner according to the agreed LWF Uganda, and Donor Guidelines,
and provide leadership and coordination for all aspects related to project
activities in Adjumani Sub-Program.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Implement
all planned project activities with expertise and in a manner that leads to
attainment of the project goals and outcomes;

·       
Keep
records of all agronomy activities including project assets under custody/use,
beneficiary list, partner list, assets or inputs provided, activity and
monitoring reports, lists of PoC benefiting from the project, etc;

·       
Regularly
develop and share monthly activity plans with the Project Manager;

·       
Ensure
100% implementation of the planned project activities on a monthly basis and
that budgets are not under and over spent;

·       
Develop
activity and budget tracking tool, and use on a monthly basis to track and
report on activity and budget management;

·       
Support
in collaboration and tabulation on a regular basis field data on project
activities carried out and undertake impact assessment using participatory
approaches for all beneficiaries to determine the relevance and impact of the
assistance;

·       
Ensure
that proper mapping of project beneficiaries is done & information shared
in time. Regular visit to all beneficiary sites where project activities are
undertaken, check on progress, offer support as directed by the project manager
in line with the project objectives;

·       
In
collaboration with the PMER unit, lead in development of Tools and ensure
effective deployment and use of the Survey CTO.

·       
Provide
appropriate extension services in crop production and management amongst
smallholder farmers, focusing on diversification and intensification of
agricultural production, and promoting integration into value chain activities;

·       
Organize,
prepare and facilitate ToT and other trainings, as required, to selected
community members on specific sustainable and environmentally appropriate
agronomic practices.

·       
In
collaboration with the District extension officers; provide support and
monitoring post-training to ensure knowledge is appropriately cascaded to other
interested members, and regularly monitoring the same in keeping with project
requirements;

·       
Participate
in designing, planning, and implementing innovative approaches to agricultural
and value chain activities.

·       
Promote
best practice technologies, appropriate for the environments of identified
project livelihood zones, to encourage production of agricultural products
having potential to increase household income, recommended dietary diversity
and market share;

·       
Liaise
and consult regularly with relevant stakeholders including local authorities,
community leaders, civil society/Nongovernmental Organizations, collaborating
partners and other stakeholders where appropriate in conjunction with the
Project Manager in relation to the planning, designing and implementation of
DINU on farm initiatives

·       
Provide
regular and timely communication to the Project Manager on progress during
project implementation, highlighting successes; delays; risks; challenges;
irregularities and opportunities encountered during your work;

·       
Compile
clear and accurate reports on key project interventions, project progress and
other aspects, as required.

·       
Design,
establish and manage appropriate project monitoring and evaluation framework
for all DINU on farm initiatives

·       
Ensure
that all project activities are effectively and efficiently implemented as per
the project document and donor guidelines

·       
Extract
lesson learning from project implementation, and compile and share case studies
with the organization and other project stakeholders as required.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Agriculture,
Entomology, or any other agricultural related field.

·       
Possession
of a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management or Monitoring and
Evaluation is an added advantage.

·       
A
minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience, including experience on
sunflower and sesame value chains, and working with local communities.

·       
Experience
in farm equipment and mechanization

·       
Excellent
interpersonal skills, proven networking, team-building, organizational and
communication skills

·       
Proven
sound judgment and decision-making skills; and Computer literate in MS Office
(Word, Excel, Outlook).
