The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) is a statutory body established
under Section 9 of the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act
2013, and in line with the National Oil and Gas Policy for Uganda which was
approved in 2008. The PAU’s mandate is to monitor and regulate the exploration,
development and production, together with the refining, gas conversion,
transportation and storage of petroleum in Uganda. This includes ensuring that
petroleum operations in Uganda are carried out in accordance with the relevant
laws, regulations, guidelines, statutes and in line with international best
practice for the petroleum industry.

Job Summary: The Senior
Geochemist will be responsible for evaluating geochemical work programmes and
budgets proposed by oil companies and reports to Manager Technical Evaluation.
The incumbent will supervise geochemical sampling and coordinating geochemical
data interpretation in order to achieve lead and prospect evaluation but also
basin analysis and resource estimation.

Key Duties and

- Responsible for archiving core samples,
rock cuttings and oil samples submitted by oil companies - Tasked with the maintenance of the core
store and Laboratory section. - Supervise sampling and analysis of samples
by oil companies. - Supervise the analysis by oil companies of
oil and rock cuttings from wells - Ensure that all the samples received from
oil companies are analysed. - Responsible for evaluating geochemistry
data and recommending further work programmes - Contribute to basin analysis and resource
assessment of the different sedimentary basins in the country - Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly
reports to Manager, Technical Evaluation - The incumbent will also plan and budget
for resource requirements and monitor the usage to ensure efficiency - Develop and monitor a Work plan and
performance agreements with all the staff under supervision - Keenly monitor staff performance and
provide guidance and periodic feedback for performance improvement - The jobholder will assess the training and
development needs of staff under supervision and recommend appropriate
interventions - Provide coaching and mentoring support to
staff under jurisdiction - Initiate and implement activities/programs
intended to create and harness teamwork - Implement any other staff related programs
as introduced and approved in the organization - Create and maintain a working atmosphere
that fosters creativity and innovation in the team - Perform any other duties assigned by the
supervisor

Experience:
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Petroleum
Authority of Uganda (PAU) Senior Geochemist job opportunity must possess a
Master’s degree in petroleum geochemistry, palynology or biostratigraphy
from an internationally recognized University. - Possession of a Bachelor’s degree (Hons)
physical sciences or related discipline from an internationally recognized
institution - At least five years’ working experience in
the oil and gas sector, in a busy and well-organized institution. - Extensive knowledge in Geochemical data
interpretation. - Broad working knowledge of data
interpretation software. - Previous exposure and working experience
in an organization /project with diverse professionals that requires team
work. - Strong background in laboratory analysis
techniques, basin modelling and petroleum systems analysis - Previous experience in operating and
maintaining geochemical equipment and software. - Ability to assimilate, develop and apply
geochemistry concepts to explore for petroleum - Possession of an internationally
recognised professional qualification or membership of an internationally
recognised professional body in the areas of oil and gas is desired - Innovative and with a proven high level of
integrity. - Ability to work independently and in a
team. - Good track record of outstanding
performance. - Excellent interpersonal and communication
skills. - Track record of training and mentoring
others. - Excellent analytical skills.
- Proficiency in the relevant computer
packages.
